If they could trade him for a couple of promising young starters ,an infielder and maybe one veteran starter (a #3-4 type),that would be good.

That's quite a haul you are expecting.

I'm guessing that was also a bit?

If you are going to make a case against a team being willing to spend money or not and you take Boras' opinion, your article's credibility takes a huge shot.

Just because one shop's a player around doesn't mean they're actively looking to unload him. Maybe they're just curious to see what people would offer them just in case someone is retarded and offers them the moon. Maybe they're seeing who's interested in pitching and wondering who might take a bait-and-switch deal.

It just doesn't line up to bring in Theo Epstein and then just fuck around and not actively try to win.

That said, it's not like they're shopping a #1 or even top-level #2 around.

From what I read, the Cubs are expecting something like this if they trade him now when he has more value.

Also, it's Winter Meetings. Teams will 'listen' on any player. Kind of the whole point.

Theo is playing chess while everyone plays checkers.

He signed Jackson to a bad contract in order to make Samardzija and his cost controlled status all the more valuable when he trades him for prospects.

I would be happy with a couple of top notch starting pitching prospects.

That's probably too much to ask for as well.

Look at the James Shields deal and work backwards from there

The idea of trading Shark is a tough nut to crack. There are so many things that must be considered. He has shown dominant stuff at times..complete game shutout stuff. He has also shown the ability to get knocked around for a month or two. He has the Big Z issue of getting a high pitch count early at times. He also has a bit of a temper on him that can influence his performance. He has also never really been hurt....but he has a man's frame from his football days.

You take all that into consideration and then you have to decide what to pay him and if he will even take it. I think the determining factor will be if they think he has hit his ceiling or not. If they can project him to improve and consistently be one of the top #2 starters in the league then you absolutely pay him. If they project him to be a #3 with some great games and some shit games then I think you move him........for the right deal. Just keep dangling him to AZ and they will bite.
