Dan is trying so hard while all he needs to do is keep donating to Duke and his kids would end up at the same place in life irrespective of grades.

I am sure Dan's kids just go to the run of the mill public school down the block.

I'm really glad you mentioned this, because this mock-humility about educational prospects was another point where I really soured on the show. He was talking about North Side Prep and how everyone there is so smart and works so hard and he didn't know how any kids, let alone his own, could even get into a university these days with the standards so high. I can't speak for the exclusivity of CPS magnet schools, but I'm pretty certain his kids are blessed with good genes and good parents and fucking truckloads of connections and opportunities that most kids could never dream of having, and so all that "boy, Jason, if you want to get into Northwestern you're gonna have to pay out of pocket if you get in at all" ends up being about as hollow as a kettle drum, because you and I and Dan all know those kids are getting into better places than Northwestern and not paying sticker price for it, either.

What do you mean it's a fake? Channel 2 wouldn't super impose that image. It's has to be real.

Its a sign in Oklahoma that was photoshopped. It never appeared on Ch. 2

I have no idea where his kid go to school, but there are some elite public elementary schools in his neighborhood.

That was my point in same vein as post above. You have connections or genius kids and CPS is not an issue. A bleeding heart like Dan thinking his kids are getting the public school experience is BS.

Dan used to make fun of NU saying it was no Duke academically. Surprised he would let his kid go there.

Can we all agree that the station can't be thrilled with the Martellus "show"? I know it's been discussed, but...yikes.

How 'bout Dan's great interviewing instincts -- he starts a question with "hey Marty, with Thanksgiving coming up I imagine that you're not a big prayer guy. That all the food is ready, and you're not one to slow things down with a big prayer.....is that....." Marty: "no, exact opposite, I'm a big prayer guy." Great stuff, Dan.

Also, anyone else cringe a bit when Dan goes down his usual "oh yah, I'm going to do a little drawn butter with some wilted spinach and some rosemary and some puh-tay-tuhs"? For as much meatball impersonating as he does, his inability to say the word potatoes correctly is quite a "thing".

Here's to looking forward to the monetizing of Marty and B&B Book Club -- and with your paid membership, they'll have an exclusive early release of Napkin Man for you!

Also, Abbatacola has really become an unlikeable dude......it's too bad, really. So many jackoffs at that station were nothing more than head nodding, exasperated sports take barfing, know-nothings from the start - Matt really did seem like he had a chance to "make it" - instead he's settled down into the incredibly annoying role he's in now. Congrats, I'm sure it's a dream fulfilled, brother!

Murph had it right when he wouldn't have athletes on his show, but I guess he eventually was forced to if I recall correctly. Martellus seems like a pretty shrewd guy. Surprised he doesn't get bullied.

Yeah, it's almost as if he created the most obnoxious and idiotic character possible and he plays him on the radio every day. It can't just be him since he wasn't always that way. I find it hard to believe he actually got dumber and more annoying without trying.

Right, JORR, I don't get it - either he's just given up completely, and is ok with whatever they pay a producer, or he's suffering from some form of CTE and we. must. get. the. truth. You don't go from a likeable, engaged guy with an opinion to a knuckle-dragging character who snipes in awful commentary from the producer's booth while you answer phone calls from people you despise.

right off the bat they have Duke legacy admissions standards and connections to Medill which is soliciting wscr every single semester for intern placements...those alone pretty much assure acceptance to a top 20 school even if they just skate by in high school...if I know that, he certainly knows that

I wonder if the alternative to Northside or another magnet is the local public high school? I would assume not.

That segment with Martellus is bad - I don't find him funny, or intelligent (not to say he's stupid) and I could care less what he does in his free time or whatever non-sports question Boers/Bernstein ask him. Some of the questions he gets feel forced, and the latest book club idea makes this even worse than it already was. If the hosts of the show are bored with sports topics that the audience is listening for (which isn't surprising since Bernstein seems intersted in turning sports related issues into calls for social re-engineering and/or liberal causes while Boers is just lazy), that would be my bigger concern.

I really like the Martellus Bennett show but the book club idea was only entertaining for how unintentionally hilarious it was. Bernstein jumping in an immediately suggesting a book club with an NFL player(just catch touchdowns and read Malcolm Gladwell) is something I'd never expect to hear on the radio.

I thought it was absolutely hilarious when bob from Niles asked B&B to pray for someone on Friday. Uncomfortable silence, then they said they could guarantee their listeners would do that.

I thought they blew it. They should have insisted that everybody in the book club only read the right page.

Yeah Dan said he would ask people to have good thoughts or something lame.
