Tomorrow is the deadline for teams to add players to the 40 man roster and protect them from the Rule 5 draft whch is on Dec 12. The Sox 40-Man currently sits at 36 players. The Sox have 4 players who are likely to be added to the 40-Man roster tomorrow:

Carlos Sanchez 2B
Trayce Thompson OF
Brandon Jacobs OF
Michael Blanke C

There are a couple other players who could be added:

Miguel Gonzalez C
Tyler Saladino SS

If the Sox were to add one or both of these players INF Mike McDade and RHP Duente Heath could easily be removed from the 40-man and possibly OF Blake Tekotte and RHP Dylan Axelrod.

I think the Sox will add the four players listed above to the 40-man and C Miguel Gonzalez. They will remove either McDade or Heath or possibly both to keep a spot open in case they want to select a player in the rule 5 draft or to sign a free agent.

well, Soxs should have a high pick in the Rule 5 draft. Maybe they take somebody for a change. Course they never amount to anything which implies everyone knows who can and can't play.

They took a guy last year. Angel Sanchez? He was a utility infielder who didn't work out because he was old and bad. I doubt they pick anyone this year unless they find a left handed pitcher they think they can turn into a loogy.

Blake Tekotte should not be taking up a spot. He's bad.

Josh Hamilton was a pretty good Rule 5 draft player.

The problem with taking Rule 5 guys is that they have to be on the MLB roster for the entire season or else be sent back to the original team. That means you are wasting a spot on your 25 man for a guy who has no business to otherwise be there in the hopes he can develop at the MLB level. Pure flyer stuff.

The White Sox have added IF Carlos Sanchez and OF Trayce Thompson to 40-man roster.

Hmmm. They are leaving OF Brandon Jacobs and C Michael Blanke exposed to the rule 5 draft? I guess I can see Blanke as there are plenty of good defensive catchers who can't hit but Jacobs has some intriguing tools and he's only 23 years old. A team can easily stash him on a major league roster for a year hoping he can eventually tap into his massive raw power.

The White Sox announced that they have claimed utility player Jake Elmore off waivers from the Astros.
