He believes an inexperienced Secret Serviceman in another vehicle "accidently" shot the president. He talks about millions of documents that the Warrant Commission never saw and the testimony of Secret Serviceman that believed they had actually fired back at the shooter and the smell of gunpowder by at least 8 people. He also brings up a fact (I didn't know) that it took the Warrant Commission 3 tries before they could actually get 3 good shots off with the riffle.

Sounds interesting will have to read up. Darko made a pretty good point in here about three quick accurate shots with a bolt action.

JFK: The Smoking Gun is a television documentary based on the work of retired Australian police Detective Colin McLaren, who spent four years combing through evidence from Kennedy's death on November 22, 1963.

The two-hour docudrama will be broadcast in the US, Australia and Canada in November.

It suggests that agent George Hickey fired one of the bullets that hit Kennedy.

Hickey, who is now dead, was riding in the car behind Kennedy's limo that day.

It is not suggested Hickey was involved in a conspiracy, rather that he wasn't fit to be guarding the president as he had been out drinking with fellow agents the night before and was handling a firearm without adequate training.

The documentary suggests the firearm accidentally discharged when Hickey's car stopped suddenly after the first shots were fired by Oswald.

The program is ReelzChannel's second Kennedy-related offering. In 2011, the cable channel aired The Kennedys, after History Channel dropped the miniseries.

The Carcano rifle fired 6.5 mm copper jacketed rounds. The round recovered at the hospital was a 6.5 mm jacketed round.
There is evidence that the kill shot was a smaller than 6mm frangible round, i.e. a non jacketed hollow point intended to fragment upon impact. This is based on an entry hole of 6 mm. The entry hole is generally slightly larger than the round itself.
The m16 compact that the Secret Service carried (a military version of the popular AR-15) was a 5.56 mm (223 cal) hollow point frangible round.

EDIT: corrected typo of M15 to M16.

I don't recall the Mini-15 even existing in that year. Not even the M-16 then yet if I remember right? You are right about the M-16/AR-15 and thei variants being .223/5.56mm. The Soviet round for AK's and also our M-60 (no chance in this) is 7.62/.308.

So it's plausible?

In service 1962.
The Service carried them, reportedly, immediately, though the Secret Service refuses to state which weapons were present that day.

Yes. Plausible is a good word for that theory.

“I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news that William McKinley had been shot”.

But Baby Boomers, being the incredibly self-absorbed people we are, are *still* dominating national discourse for the entire month of November with our conviction that an emotionally upsetting moment from our mummified Pepsi Generation Youth is something that Kids Today need to hear about yet again because we Boomers discovered sex, death, morality, and everything else worth knowing about. Our parents were prologue to us. Our children are our accessories. History was born and will die with us. So we Baby Boomers blather each year about how “America lost its innocence on November 22, 1963″. That would be the America that endured the crucible of a Civil War, slavery, ethnic cleansing of Native populations, two world wars, the opening of Dachau, and the spectre of nuclear annihilation. What all the “lost innocence” chatter means is, “I grew up watching Howdy Doody in suburbia and this was *my* first encounter with death that my parents could not shield me from. Since I am the center of all things, that means my emotional experience will now blot out all of human history in my epic narcissism.”

JFK: Eternal rest.

Baby Boomers: Its been 50 years. Move on. You are not the Center of All Things.

Pretty good JORR. I cannot think of any more self absorbed self important bunch of crap than the baby boomers. Oh the 60's and oh this and that. Geez they are worse than Bernstein with their self shit. Fuck off and Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan and The Band also sucked as did the Big Chill. Go off into retirement and irrelevance already.

I was just a little boy in the '60's but I agree. Joplin & Dylan and Bobby Mcgee right up their collective asses!

i'd much rather listen to gen x'ers talk about how important punk rock and new wave was, and how MTV changed everything.

i mean...you guys realize this will happen every 30 years or so, right? just wait until the millennials are in their 40's and 50's...

JORR, don't worry, you'll be long dead by that time.

Own it! When I replied to DS post I typed slowly thinking that somehow it was autocorrecting my spelling of "Warren". Of course that didn't happen. It was just me spelling the wrong word multiple times.

God, I hope so.

Seriously, what makes the Baby Boomers different is their sheer numbers which makes them attractive to advertisers.

one of the signs of the times was that commercial years ago that had dennis hopper talking to all his fellow hippies who had to invest in the future. i think it may have been a credit card commercial but i can't remember now. but it had 60 year olds surfing and stuff and it really was vomit inducing because it was so pandering. and it probably worked.

Yeah, it would be interesting to track the products sold on television. I know that thirty years ago every other commercial wasn't for a drug for old people. These bastards just won't go quietly. They're gonna exit this world on the goddamn dance floor with Cialis hard-ons, dammit!

Another thing. Knowing what we know now that JFK was basically Clinton before Clinton and sort of a connected scumbag with a lot of crap going on... Would he still be as beloved had he not been assassinated?

Simmons, Klosterman and Chris Connelly (who was 6 at the time and watch it live on TV) go over various JFK conspiracy theories and conspiracy theories in general, tho they whiff on Ken Lay:

Supposed to be a part 2 with baseball stats guru/pioneer/godfather Bill James (who released a true crime type book a few years back).
