In stream form. I won't be able to watch much of this but I just love that it's there.

http://popwatch.ew.com/2013/11/18/mst3k-turkey-day-2013/

I still remember watching nearly 16 straight hours of the first Turkey Day marathon. I taped about 4 episodes on an Extended Play VHS tape.

W_Z - did you happen to catch this?

WHO: Museum of Broadcast Communications and MST3K cast members Joel Hodgson, Trace Beaulieu, Frank Conniff, and Josh Weinstein.
WHAT: 25th Anniversary of Mystery Science Theater 3000
Twenty-five years after it began on KTMA, the Museum of Broadcast Communications celebrates the cult classic TV series with a public event featuring:

Joel Hodgson (“Joel Robinson”)
Frank Conniff (“TV’s Frank”)
Trace Beaulieu (“Crow T. Robot” / “Dr Clayton Forrester”)
Josh Weinstein (“Tom Servo” / “Gypsy” / “Dr. Laurence Erhardt”)

The event will include a panel discussion (moderated by Steve Darnall) and a screening of clips from the show.

WHEN: November 16, 2013, at 12 noon
WHERE: The Museum of Broadcast Communications, 360 North State Street, 2nd Floor
WHY: On November 24, 1988, Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) premiered on KTMA in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Created by Joel Hodgson, the show features a man and his robot sidekicks, imprisoned by an evil scientist and forced to watch bad movies. To stay sane, they provide a running commentary on each film.
The show ran from 1988 to 1999 (continuing on Comedy Central and the Sci-Fi Channel), totalling 197 episodes and a feature film. The series attained critical acclaim and was awarded a Peabody Award in 1993. Nominated for two Emmy Awards in 1994 and 1995, it was further nominated for a CableACE Award, and in 2007 it was listed as one of Time magazine’s 100 Best TV Shows of All Time.

I read about it too late, so no I missed it...really sucks too because I was in the city that day.

I have gotten to see them live, though, at a Cinematic Titanic Live showing a few years ago. I wore an "I'm a Virgin" shirt. While that is quite an obscure reference (i also own a Castleton shirt), the people that got it were very receptive. I wanted to show it off to the guys but there were too many people in line to see them and...i didn't want to be that guy.

anyhow, yeah I think "manos" may be my favorite of all time as well.

A few years back I passed a girl heading to ISU that had a "Torgo" license plate. I thought it was just an odd coincidence since she seemed a bit young for MST until I saw your avatar in her window. :alien:

It wasn't seeing them live as much as it was some Q&A moderated by some dude from the museum on an auspiciously un-elevated stage. i put a picture of my perspective on that mst3kinfo site (in the thread about the thing) where from my seat in the back you could see the top of frank's head amongst the endless foreground in front of me. a good # of people got up and stood around the periphery rushing up to take their pictures; i guess i underestimated the fandom contingent showing up early, but then again i didn't get home from the aceyalone show til ~2:15am and fall asleep til ~3am, so getting back up cleaned out the door and on the L by 9:00-9:30am wasn't happening. c'est la vie.

i too have seen the majestic cinematic titanic in action (or, as my brother the MST3K fan calls them, the quitters brigade (save MJP) up in milwaukee and i remember falling asleep at some point. that was fun. i wasn't much a fan of them always seeming to be at places with $30-40 tickets in odd locales like elgin or milwaukee for multiple nights because it was both a decent financial hit (when you're talking 3-4 people going and you wanna be cool) and a relative pain in the ass to get to. and once you've stood in one autograph line for these guys you're pretty much all set to never do it again (cuz they did their usual thing where they all sat at a couple'a tables and everyone lined up. and the gift shop there was scalping 25-27 methinks just in case you wanted to buy something to have them sign it. i guess it's their lot in life)

being largely on the periphery of this fandom here, i gotta say my favorite moment was the "robot knife fight" song from the end of the rifftrax of avatar. that's one moment where i bought into the whole experience.... even tho they're cheesier and a bit less cerebral/understated/joel-brand-smarmy at least the rifftrax live stuff is $12/person a few times in the 2nd half of the year, as opposed to $30-50 out in elgin or whatever.

oh and in that mall by the broadcast museum in the food court there's a place called champ burger or cruise burger or c[word] burger and it's a legitimately excellent burger (if you dont mind a $10 combo with fries and a soda). holy shit that was good.

actually the person i wanted to meet the most when i was at CT was MJP. i've always liked her.

i have one specific gripe about each of the new incarnations of MST.

Rifftrax - they're too into themselves. they cross reference their own jokes on different trax, and they sometimes go on and on and on just to listen to themselves. i've opined: "It's like they're riffing for the sake of listening to their own riffs."

Cinematic Titanic - too many cooks. I really think 2-3 people riffing is enough. There are too many voices coming from the sound board. It's hard to keep track sometimes, and I've never been a fan of J. Elvis anyway.

Sometimes both are brilliant. I don't like that Rifftrax chooses good, classic films...i don't mind that they riff on new movies rather than old B movies. their riffs on films like "the wicker man" and "transformers" are epic.

but then they'll do "lord of the rings" and it just doesn't do anything for me. plus you know they love those movies anyway. it's a lot funnier when you know they hate it...like "twilight".

i didn't get to see any of the host segments but the twitter feed (i wish it were a different medium to make comments) was fun to watch and the episodes i saw they chose ranged from "space mutiny" to "mitchell" so it looked like a good range of great favorites.

i got to see some of it during down time and it was really nice to catch as much as i did.
