Conns has this right.

This is just Bernstein's way of saying Trestman can make any QB good

Except he thinks you have to franchise Cutler, which goes against that.

That's covering his previous stance, Cutler is good and unappreciated.

I don't think McCown is anything great, but bernstein's dismissive attitude toward the guy is more idiotic than the callers who think he should be the starter. I think he was a third round draft pick. He's always had talent and has never really been in an ideal situation for himself. He isn't just some broken down 35 year old bum which is what you would think from listening to B&b.

Oh, Dan's just mad that an earnest white good ol' boy is doing well. McCown isn't a tortured soul, though I'd say being out of work in your chosen profession is more torture than having an offensive line that doesn't block well.

like bigfan said, I guarantee you they are drafting a QB this year so there is a question whether their is even room for Mc Cown with this team. This is a lot of hand wringing on all sides over nothing.

This. Follow the Ron Wolf model and draft QBs on a regular basis. Eliminate the Jason Campbell-type contracts.

Unfortunately, for the Bears they have Emery doing the drafting.

You should be looking at your underachieving front office too.

I'll give Trestman this: Rich Gannon (Trestman's greatest QB accomplishment) lost his starting job to Sean Salisbury. McCown, a former NFL starter is now having his career resurrected. So give Trestman the credit for McCown being capable.

I still liked the way Blanchard looked in pre-season, I think he has the same athleticism and a better arm.

The Bears, if smart, will make sure they begin to develop the eventual replacement for Cutler, sooner rather than latter.

The phrase "game manager" is treated rather dismissively, as if it isn't a good quality. But good game management (making the right reads -- not throwing to the other team) is what wins in the playoffs. The best game manager in the game today (if not all time) is Peyton Manning.

Cutler doesn't need to come back until he is physically ready and able to perform at 100%.

Sort of true.

RPB, Hub could still be right about the Long being a blown pick. If he's not shifted to tackle then Emery wasted the pick.

Disagree. If he turns into a dominant guard it's not a wasted pick

A guard is not a premium position. DT, CB, TE and MLB were all still on the board and have much larger impacts than guards.

Unless the guard is dominant. Even at guard, if you get a pro bowler, its worth a lot

Anyway, Long looks to be a solid pick

Why doesn't someone here call in and put that smug fucker out to pasture on air?

I don't study him enough, but some here seem to know enough about him and his ways to crush the fuck out of him in a debate.

You mean to tell me that we have no Champion?

Why would anyone want to play on their home court where they have the mute button and the microphone?

Yeah. Of course. If they draft one they likely let him go.

Just saying Bernstein thinks nobody in the NFL would want McCown as a backup. And if they don't draft one, Bernstein is against kicking McCown an extra 650k. That's just stupid.

Here's what happens with Bernstein. He gets into these things. Like the push back of the McCown lovers. Then he starts saying stupid stuff. He's as stubborn little angry bastard. So he ends up saying insane things to hold onto his position. I'll bet Bernstein knew he was wrong as he was saying this shit yesterday. But he just went with it. He was in too deep.

Now The Stein totally changed what he said last week. He said, "Yeah, maybe he'll get a raise, sure."

Biggs wrote today that McCown will get 3 million from someone to be a backup. Bernstein yelled at callers last week when it was suggested he'd get this type of money. "No he won't.", said the Bernstein. "Who's gonna pay him that?" he said.

Yeah, he'll get it, Bernstein. As was said by me. As was thought by many. It was common sense.

Bump.

They lose. I knew McCown would get a big raise. I also knew 3 or 4 teams would want him as a starter.

Bernstein said he would not get a raise and no team would want him. Argued with a caller over this. Called the caller stupid. Of course, Boers agreed with Bernstein.

mcowen is worth 3 mil. bernstein is smart as shit though. he says things that he knows will get people riled up and participate in his job. which makes him more money. i dont think bernsie is worth more then $100k/yr, but im sure he makes 10x that. if you think of it reasonably, he is actually bitching about his own wage, but spinning it in a way that makes him seem superior. i wouldn't doubt if hes a stone cold republican.

They STILL said McCown sucked on today's show! Bernstein says don't judge him on a small recent sample size, judge him on his career. Boers said "He's not that good". I've been watching Bears QB's since 1972 (ooops, sorry  ),I have to think real hard to find ANYBODY WHO PLAYED BETTER over a span of 5 games. Especially in the last 20 years or so. Kramer,McMahon,Miller had stretches, but I don't know if they played that well.
