Just finished week two on my new job. This has been extremely hard and frustrating. At least no one expects anything from me yet, but if shit doesn't start to click soon, I'm going to get worried.

Started new job in July and so far has been great. Technically, I'm underemployed for my schooling/training, but I'm being paided decently, so..... Weirdest part is I'm working in the office with mostly women having pretty much never worked with women my whole life.

All in all, I'm the happiest i've been since things tanked 5 years or so ago.

New question:

Are you where you thought you would be when you were in your last year of school?

I am far from where I thought I would be but it's been a good ride. I didn't think I'd be at my current job for more than the first year.

I always thought I was going to end up on the west coast or northwest. No idea I'd be in Pennsylvania.
When I got this job, I thought I would use the fact that I had a tenure track job to get another one back in the real great lakes region to be closer to family, but alas I'm still here.

 Like a lot of people I am doing something completely different than what I went to school for. In fact my
degree in print journalism is pretty much a dead career. I thought I would be working for a newspaper or magazine
when in fact I never have worked for either since graduating. I spent about 5 years working for a printing
company before moving to my current job in a more standard business setting almost 10 years ago.

As I was staring out at the mountains during my last semester of school in Montana studying history, I absolutely thought I would be selling light bulbs 7 years from that moment.

I'm right where I want to be. Been here 13 years & have turned down the same promotion 3 times. I don't want to move & I don't want more responsibility, bullshit & headaches so I choose to remain in my current position. I did the corporate headquarters thing for 5 years in the early 1990's & have no desire to do that again.I have become friends with many of my sales guys & I enjoy working with them.
I report to the company President, but I am 1000 miles away & he pretty much lets me run my own business.

Gotta admit that I love what I do. I'm a graphic artist/prepress manager at a printing facility and it rocks. My own department, radio/tunes, temperature control, flex time and OT regularly. Like most, I wish it paid a bit better so I didn't have to rely on the OT - but what are you gonna do? Great thread...

I can't remember ever thinking about it. I was busy learning a little Shakespeare and a lot of bad habits.

Considering I'm a south side Irish guy my birthright seemed to indicate a patronage city job somewhere. Didnt give much thought to what is be doing post high school. Didnt really ever pursue that city job even though I had a good connection . How he hell I ended up in the burbs is miracle. Make more money than I thought I ever would with fairly minimal effort aside from the pre dawn wake up calls so I guess I overachieve despite my indifference towards getting a career

How did you end up choosing Montana for school?

Really dim humor in this thread...

Honestly, kinda threw a dart at a map so to speak. I was in a very shitty place mentally, and needed to get out of town for a completely fresh start. Wasn't going to kill myself or anything, but I could understand how people start thinking that way and why people actually do kill themselves. One of the guys I played guitar with from time to time was going there for civil engineering. So I figured Montana was far enough away and off I went.

I'm currently considering an offer that would eliminate my ability to post on a message board during the weekdays.

That could be a dealbreaker.

It's a tough call.

Kids, I'd like you to go to college. But, on the other hand, I really like pretending to be Michael Jordan.

 I wasn't sure if you were going to have a typed out sitdown with them. That is one of the best bits going
on the board in my opinion.

That was going to be my excuse if I was accepted to another board too.
