I love threads like this.

It's always: Paris is amazing, except for the 5-15 things that are absolutely horrible.

I drove through Paris once on my way to Indy. Kind of a shithole.

Been to Paris a couple times and loved it. Did not find anyone rude. Do not start out speaking to someone in english, they will pretend they don't understand. If you say "Pardon, no parlez vous Francais-English?" Then they will speak English. If you are going to be free a couple days, drop the money on a Paris Museum Pass. It gets you in a lot of places and you can jump the line. It was something like $80.00 and well worth it. I would recommend D'Orsay over the Louvre for artwork, but I liked the Louvre to see how much Napoleon stole from the Egyptians. The Metro is the best. You can figure it out in minutes and get anywhere. Metro also has a pass with unlimited rides for a fixed cost. It is a great walking city, but the crowds make it difficult at times. Take a boat trip on the river. Pretty cool. I liked the view from the Arc D'Triumph, especially looking down it is a monstrous traffic roundabout with monstrous traffic. Definitely do not drive-they are nuts beyond belief.
Also, I thought it was a stereotype, but you will see people walking around with Baguettes under their arm. There are pastry shops and bakeries on every block and the food at those places is fantastic.

I'd rather go to West Virginia. I dislike everything about the French.

Women should only have hair in two places.

I wouldn't even bother with the language. Anyone in the tourism industry will speak English and not think twice about it

However, my experience was that if you make a reasonable attempt, the people will really try to help you. In a day or two you'll find yourself amazed at how much of the language you'll pick up.

I'd advise you to enjoy the shade from all the trees that the germans planted so they could march in the shade.

Be sure to stop by Laon, France. A lot of love from that city, I hear.

Yeah, but when you go there, Doug, do NOT order the Chocolate Protein Roll. Its not what you think it is.
