I dont care that it could have happened anytime, and it might not be connected to the other injury

This is just more evidence that tomorrow is promised to no one and forgoing a playoff run when your healthy is as bitch-ish as it is foolish.

Why would anyone believe he would be coming back this year after what we saw last year?

he wasn't that good anyway, so what difference does it make? I highly doubt he ever plays near an MVP form again.

The NBA irritates me so. I love the game of pro basketball, but 90% of the teams have no chance before the season starts. That's just a stupid way to run a league.

90% of teams have no chance? Aren't there sub .500 teams that are in the playoffs almost every year in the NBA?

Sometimes yes, and they have no chance. There are rarely any surprises in what is now a watered down league.

You know, it's supremely ironic that every time the San Antonio Spurs make it to the third round of the playoffs, you get this chortling from the peanut gallery like "oh ho ho, the network executives aren't going to like this small market team!", but that's the least of the NBA's problems. The rights fees are paid, the ad inventory is sold. The only difference between the NBA's revenue and the NHL's revenue is the NBA's national TV money. Take national contracts out of the equation, and revenues are pretty close. Hell, the NHL might even be ahead at the gate. That's what happens when you have all these arenas that nobody goes to because there's nothing to see. Milwaukee, Detroit, Charlotte, Sacramento, Minnesota, even Atlanta, you watch a game on TV and there's no one there. And sure, the NHL has its dead spots, believe me, but not as many, and not to this extent. But because the NBA is basically a TV show called Bron-Bron & Friends at this point, it doesn't really matter if anyone's at the games for these teams that have no chance because there's so much central revenue from national, and now international, television. It's an unusual business model that has no right to work, but it does work.

I know the odds aren't in their favor, but you can't say they have no chance. Just 2 years ago the #8 seed beat the Bulls after Rose went down with injury. You never know what is going to happen.

That #8 seed nearly beat the Celtics in the next round also.

I'm talking about championships. Anybody can make the playoffs, which again, makes the regular season pointless.

Sure, you can't rule out anyone, but you can speak in terms of likelihood. Just check out the past 13 years - there have been several teams whose success has been surprising, but virtually no surprise champions. The only surprising champion I can think of is the Pistons, and I'd argue they won due to the Lakers imploding than they did because they were the better team.

I'm sure there will be surprising playoff births this year, but the champion will predictably emerge from a pool of five teams at the most, and we won't have to wait until the playoffs to find out who those five teams are. It's sort of the opposite of the NFL in that respect.

But the Pistons caused that implosion. That was a very good team that only took people by surprise because of all the focus on the Super-Lakers and the Garnett-Sprewell-Cassell Timberwolves (who finished ahead of the Lakers that year). I found their win welcome and enjoyable, but not surprising.

You baby your way through one injury talking about how you want to only play when healthy and then you come back looking like shit and get injured again. Luckily he has already made millions thru his contract and endorsements. Happy trails Derrick.

I agree they were very good, but I also recall a ton of in-fighting on that Lakers team, mainly due to the Kobe rape allegations and the subsequent fallout between Kobe and Shaq. Not that they were best friends to begin with anyway...

Yes, you can. They cannot beat the Heat. They cannot beat the Pacers. I would've said that was also the likely story with Derrick.

You can't just ignore 6 decades of lesser teams getting their asses shipped home by better teams just because it sounds like an interesting counterpoint on a messageboard. There is literally nothing to be gained by nursing this team to a low seed in the playoffs. At this point it would appear the only intelligent option is to research what you can get in trade from whomever you don't deem necessary and go from there.

The alternative to that is a certainty: basketball hell.

After Rose went down in the playoffs, the Bulls sputtered and lost to a team that they were still better than without Rose. Last year they played with the expectation that Rose would rejoin them, so they did fairly well throughout the season. Now that Rose is out for the year, I see an extension of what happened during the Philly series. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if they miss the playoffs. There is nothing to play for and no light at the end of the tunnel.

The Bulls would have to literally not show up for games to not make the playoffs.

KEITH: (to Jerry) Do you perform anywhere in new York right now?

JERRY: I'm performing in this club on the east Side. You should come in.

GEORGE: But if you think about it...26 teams, 162 games a season, you'd think eventually an entire team would get wiped out.

I don't think they can overcome Rose being out on a mental level. Last year it was easy because you were looking forward to him coming back, even though we know that never happened. There was something to look forward to, and the injury was a thing of the past. This year the injury is current, and it will hang over the rest of the season. They know they have no chance to win in the playoffs, and I think Thibs will find it hard to motivate everyone like he did last year.

Just throwing this out there...do the Bulls have to save their one time amnesty clause for Derrick Rose? Supposing he's clearly limited and a shell of his former self next year, do you cut him like the Wizards did with Arenas, or like how the Blazers let Roy go?
