Despite the awful advice I received regarding my 1st round pick (you know who you are) I clinched a playoff spot last week and have a chance to win the regular season sitting in 2nd place at 9-3. Thanks to....

Drew Brees
Desean Jackson
Eddie Lacy
Giovani Bernard
Jordy Nelson (before Rodgers got hurt)

Danny Woodhead is the only reason I have a hope of making the playoffs.

Because I started the season with these keepers in a 20 team league:

Aaron Rodgers
Calvin Johnson
Jordy Nelson
Trent Richardson
LeSean McCoy
Victor Cruz
Vernon Davis

I also decided to draft Chad Henne so we haven't been hurt too bad by the unexpected loss of Aaron Rodgers.

If you like your players, you can keep them? :drunken:

But seriously, how do you have that roster in a 20 team league? And how are you not undefeated?? What are your keeper rules?

I had Demaryius Thomas as a keeper, I drafted Welker, and picked up Julius Thomas on waivers after week 1. I don't think it's usually very wise to have that many players from the same team, but it sure has worked this year. So far.

I've lost 4 games. I was projected to go undefeated. We keep 7 every year. I acquired just about all of them in trades. A combination of players and draft picks. Most of these guys weren't as valuable when I made trades for them. I just made a few gambles that paid off over the years. Even with this core group of players I have never won this league.

Well great job acquiring that talent over the years. Amazing you haven't won, but there's lots of luck involved at the end trying to get the title. Hope you get it this year.

i've got two 10-2 teams this season (along with 3 8-4 teams, a 6-6 team, and that 5-7 team i whined about in the other antithetical thread) and uhhhh, one is clearly a peyton manning team that had things work out correctly... peyton/megatron/antonio-brown/alshon with knowshon/stacy/andre-brown/ has been enough to average something like 110-113/week and thus i'm crusing into the playoffs accumulating depth.

my second 10-2 team has brady/luck at QB, which hasn't been as consistently !!! as you'd think.... but having marshall/welker/vjax at WR was good enough to get me to a point where i traded shady mccoy and jason witten for jimmy graham and eddie lacy (right around the first week lacy came back from his concussion/injury/wjhatever) and that's been the impetus for a nice season, as getting graham out there has been huge and then lacy has given me ~66-90% of shady mccoy's production, which has worked out nicely with nabbing players like zac stacy and danny amendola off of waivers, the latter of which who i traded for giovanni bernard to give me some depth going forward in that league. if brady can go on a ~4-5 game run where he plays like he did last year i'm really really set, otherwise i've always got the option to go with luck in the playoffs and likely get ~15-20 for sure if i wanna give up some upside.

my 6-6 team has rodgers coming back soon and if i can work out the holes @ WR (comeon burleson/crabtree/wallace in waivers) i should be able to get all of my teams save the flagship one into the playoffs this year, and maybe then i can win my first yahoo public league in ~11 years of trying.

Josh Gordon was really key. I got him in the 7th because he was suspended for the first couple of games. He has been pretty consistent and as a number 1 WR.

All of the other posts in this thread are basically saying this.

Same for my teams.

Because in a ppr league I drafted Calvin Johnson and Brandon Marshall with my first two picks. Came back in 3rd round and picked Stafford. Picked Moreno, Gordon, and Phillip Rivers off the waiver wire. 10-2 right now and locked into the number one seed in the playoffs.
