I agree, but I'd say resign him if he gets to the Super Bowl.

It's pretty amazing we are now at the point that even with gaudy numbers we are now blaming Josh McCown for not scoring enough touchdowns.

Yeah, his statistics are currently at a pro bowl level, and the defense gets gashed all the time, but he just isn't getting it done!

I can't wait until Cutler gets back and we can start blaming him for not scoring 40 points a game too!

they're both fundamentally flawed: one has a puss-arm and the other can't stop throwing picks. combine the two and you'd have a typical Bears QB.

2006 defense >>> 2013 defense. Yes 2013 offense > 2006 offense but still.

 Was Cutler blamed when the defense was holding teams to under 17 points every week and still losing? I bring it up all the time but I remember the defense giving up 7 points to the Vikings last season (Cutler gave up the other 14 points) and because those 7 came in the 4th quarter Frank and others blamed the defense for the loss. It was the most shocking defense of Cutler I had ever seen. No way I was that bad when it came to Grossman.

Yesterday I texted into B&B to get them to talk about taking the LSU QB kid in 2nd rd now that he has an acl. Terry seemed to want to start talking about him but Dan cut him off and went all PSU QB love. Anyway, I would not mind keeping McCown a year and drafting this guy to come on when ready.

On Sunday when Thom Brennaman intimated McCown is better than Cutler, I knew my ship was sunk. I give. He knows Chicago.

Of course, Thom also said Orton was better than Cutler. Of course he might still believe that.

So, Cutler said he wanted to play Monday night, but Trestman rules him out. So how does this fit the Narrative? Cutler goes from wimp (GB 2011) to bully, to wimp again? He's afraid of the cold, and the lights shining a bit too bright on MNF?

Where's the team doctor that said Cutler's injury would be no worse by playing on it? The same one that cleared him to play a week short of the four-week minimum, after which he was supposed to be "week to week"? Which we now know means out every week, apparently?

At least McCown will keep his streak going of making his mark in the league and proving the small-ball theory by playing against the league's worst pass defenses. Detroit (26th), Washington (27th), Minnesota (30th), and now Dallas (31st). At least Green Bay was 22nd. Hope he can stick around for Philly (32nd) in a few weeks. He'll just need Denver (29th) to make a full run.  Superbowl???????

Cutler did not have a good year last year. He was having an OK year this year.

Brick, McCown isn't fooling me, and you've admitted he's not fooling you. He's not fooling the league, either. So surely you know better than to bring up those stats. You know he'll never score enough to make a team a contender.

After McCown completed 2 passes in a row he exceeded my expectations of him. I am still shocked by the level he is playing at. Is it possibly that Cutler is asking to play because he know they won't let him (this time)?

Trestman probably believes his best chance on monday for a win is with Cutler on the bench.
this draft is loaded with qbs, ucf qb bradles looks more promising than the lsu qb. i don't want Cutler back under any circumstances ...he's not good. i believe emery agrees.

Oh very possibly. Who the hell knows? If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say Trestman realized he screwed up by bringing him back too soon against Detroit, and doesn't want to repeat the mistake. When do you think is the next time he'll kick again on 2nd down?

Yes McCown has exceeded expectations. I just think it's partly a mirage, and that there's a ceiling, which is showing even amid the 300-yard games. That's all. I think Cutler wins that game against Minnesota.

I think the "McCown doesn't score enough" is just grasping at straws. The offense has worked just as good or better with McCown. They are scoring 6 less points per game but there can be any number of reasons for that. The highest scoring game this year was played by both players, with McCown getting more yards. The second highest scoring game this year for Cutler was a game where he threw for 159 yards.

I hate this idea that Jay Cutler has some magical ability to produce at a lower level but score more points. That doesn't even make sense. McCown is crushing him in virtually every category, and it is a virtual tie when you look at touchdowns thrown compared to attempts.

The Bears are winning less because of injuries. Let's try a third option. If McCown isn't good, but can play this well, then so can a rookie.

It has, except in the red zone.

The McCown led Bears offense has scored on more possessions than the Cutler led offense. Also the McCown led offense has needed longer drives to score because the defense hasn't done them any favors. The McCown led Bears offense has only turned the ball over times (fumble by McCown and Forte and a last second interception by McCown). #Facts

Technically, it's 2-2.

I guess you've stopped blaming the defense?

That's the Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman argument though. Both won a lot of games but both were rarely the reason why they won the game.

From Jason Lacanfora's article on Nov. 18th:

"McCown is a football journeyman. But in an era of escalating quarterback salaries, with a guru like Trestman to coach them up, take the opportunity to save $10 million or more a year at the position and invest those assets into other positions of need (like an aged defense with a bunch of impending free agents). I know this much, Trestman has told some people he sees a lot of Rich Gannon in McCown, and Gannon too was a late bloomer who ended up with Trestman in Oakland and had some record-breaking seasons and reached a Super Bowl. For a franchise as traditionally frugal as the Bears, I don't think you can minimize the financial factors in this at all."

It should be "with the opportunity to save $14M or more. No way in hell McCown should get close to $6M.

Id prefer they resign McCown, let Cutler go and draft a QB in first couple rounds.

I would look at Fitzpatrick. He has been playing decent and I think Trestman could make him reach the potential some thought he had.

Sure Nas, the.really.smart.coach. takes the Harvard grad and turns him into a Pro Bowler. Or a successful venture capitalist .
