Room 237.
A study of Kubricks "The Shining"... outstanding work. Some of the theories are cracked, and silly, but some of it is quite fascinating.
If you liked the shining, watch this. If you like Kubrick, you gotta watch this.

What else is a hidden gem on Netflix, men?

I agree with this.

"After Porn Ends" is another one.

Yes. No.
It's just the online library of vids.

I ate that shit up. The Shining is easily in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. Watched Room 237 a few months ago and dug it (I think the Indian Revenge theory guy is probably the most spot on) but the moon-landing dude was a fucking nutter.

Shit. It's better than OnDemand/Netflix/etc. It's got pretty much every HBO series from start to finish. I watched all of Boardwalk Empire in about a week and a half thanks to HBOgo.

i don't know if it's on Netflix but if you wanna catch an interesting documentary about something kind of underground...look up "Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles".

it's a real story...the tiles are real. it's very strange but intriguing as hell. well done.

Finally got with the times and bought myself one of those Blu Rays with Wifi, so I spent a lot of the Thanksgiving break checking out Netflix.

I know there's a separate thread, but do yourself a favor and watch the Netflix remake of House of Cards. It's fantastic. 2nd season coming out in January.

I'm about 50 mins into this and I have no idea what makes this a gem. I may not make it through the next 50 mins.

Because what you described is something that interests me. I didn't think I would need to have seen the movie to appreciate it. What I saw seemed like mostly bs. There were a couple of theories that were interesting but I tapped out with 30 mins left.

Perhaps I should have been in sales. But I can't imagine why someone would want to see a movie about hidden meaning of a movie that they've never seen.
My advice is this:
1. Rent The Shining (Scatman Crothers!)
2. Turn off lights, light a couple tea lights or scented candles of your choice.
3. Smoke a little grass
4. Get a little weird
5. Watch The Shining, know the black dude gets it.
6. Watch Room 237
7. Thank Darkside the next day for giving you top notch advice.

I've bought books because of the recommendation of board members so watching a documentary because you recommended it wasn't difficult. It may be in the future. The faking of the moon landing was one of the few things that intrigued me but most of you all dismissed it.

Yeah but Popular Mechanics pretty much killed the shit out of the "Faked Moon Landings" thing. Pretty convincingly as well (another interesting documentary).
Yes. I like documentaries.
But if you don't like The Shining you can still smoke grass light candles masturbate and get a little weird.

A 13 episode series starring Steve Coogan.
He's as great in this is he is in everything else he does.
Alan Partridge, The Trip, etc.

Steve Coogan is one of the funniest people ever.

The Act of Killing might be the best documentary ever made. I think it's on Netflix exclusively.

Berkeley in the 60s

It's long and a bit dry at times, but this is a great history of the 60s told by concentrating on the protest movements that took hold of the Berkeley campus.

There is absolutely unbelievable footage of Mario Savio, the great orator of the 60s counterculture and a kind of mid-20th century Thomas Paine, giving several of his most famous speeches. Rage Against The Machine fans will enjoy watching some of this footage since Savio's diatribe from which the band took its name is included here.

There's also cool segments on the Black Panthers, Ronald Reagan, the general mayhem on the Berkeley campus and a whole lot more.

Highly, highly recommended.

One of the people who contributed to Room 237 is a guy named Rob Ager- he does a lot of cool film analysis. His YouTube channels and website are worth a gander:

I haven't watched NetFlix in months probably. Might need to stop wasting my money and check this out.
