Dropping $60 on a horse race is God's way of letting you know you have too much money ;)

You aint kiddin.

We were deciding between soccer, karate, or ballet for my daughter and I was a little surprised there were limited options for introductory classes.

Its like 900$ for 12 months.

My Daughter was a competitive cheerleader on traveling teams for 7 years.Between the club dues & travel expenses, we probably spent $5K each year. Yet guys are complaining about spending $100 on a doll. $100 today was worth $23 in 1975. Buy the Girl the Doll.

You're not understanding the point, Head.

Its not a complaint about the money. If I didnt buy the doll, Id spend the money on other gifts. Its just the idea of how much it is compared to other brands of the same thing and why it costs what it does.

What if the doll was $500? Isnt there a limit where you say "That's ridiculous"

Like I said, its Christmas and Im getting it (always was, just wondered people's thoughts) but just on its own....its pretty ridiculous.

Buy two dolls. Give one to your daughter. Give the other to a homeless person. Problem solved.

My daughters thought about this for a few minutes. I gave them a talk about i'd rather they play a sport than end up simply cheering for people that do. I am glad they bought it. I have a friend that had to buy a timeshare just so he can go to all these dumb ass competitions. They seem like the moms with that dead daughter in CO.

Chas could probably help you out with a doll that fell off the truck. Literally fell, she head has some road rash on her head, but he's only asking for $10 and an autographed picture of Patrick Kane in return.

I'd wager 3K of the expenses were for travel.

 this kinda got me thinking about what the backstory would be on an American Girl doll from the wrong side of the tracks would read like , specifically a biker chick with the road rash . Maybe Don, Sam, Dr K should take a stab at writing that up.

I'm not sure that hard work is as big a part of success as it was in the past. That's a nice idea though.

And who said give everything? Do you hate all charity? Have you ever donated? If so, why? You earned it

Forget your idea of homeless people. Any charity....cancer kids?

Sure. Amongst them would be The Salvation Army (several times) The Red Cross, Mooseheart chilrens home/school in Batavia (Organized a drive for the kids that resulted in 3 truckloads of clothing, games, a 60 inch projection TV )and the ALS foundation (My Grandfather had ALS-so it matters to me more than many others might). I also donate blood through Lifesource every 112 days (double red blood cell-ALYX) and have been on the bone marrow donor list for 5 years now. Less than 5 percent of the population donates blood, though 37% are eligible. Far fewer choose to register for marrow donation. If you think that donating blood as regularly as I do doesn't constitute charity, consider that it saves lives. I consider it more important than the other charities I give money to.
