During today's transition, the four hosts were discussing D. Rose's saying that he'd be back when God lets him come back.
Bernstein was saying that Rose was stupid and a bad speaker.
Spiegel started hammering Bernstein with questions about his faith. "Why do you go to Hannukah services?" "Are the Jews God's chosen people?"
Bernstein was obviously shocked.
Then Matt said, "I'm tired of listening to you equate having a belief in God as someone being stupid." (Not an exact quote, but damned close)
I would pay decent money to be able to see what Dan's face looked like when he heard Matt say this.

I guess that's sort of accurate, but nobody seemed to get upset with it. eveyone was being kind of jokey.

Even Laurence seemed emboldened enough to side with Matt. It was a nice, but odd changeup.

Here's today's transition.
http://chicago.cbslocal.com/?podcast_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.podtrac.com%2Fpts%2Fredirect.mp3%2Fnyc.podcast.play.it%2Fmedia%2Fd0%2Fd0%2Fd1%2Fd4%2Fd8%2FdE%2FdT%2F148ET_4.MP3%3Fauthtok%3D5562264729945753574_qEfvEgHyjUHVo5bMSHTRwhSohjQ&podcast_name=12%2F5%2F2013+Transition+from+Spiegel+and+Holmes+to+Boers+and+Bernstein&podcast_artist=The+Danny+Mac+Show%2F+B+%26amp%3B+B&station_id=391&tag=pages&dcid=CBS.CHI

Yeah, Larry tried to join Spiegel in challenging Bernstein about people who express religious convictions.
Then he backed down cuz he sensed he was about to get it from Bernstein like a caller would.
Larry is very afraid of that so while he sometimes puts his toe in the water, he never jumps in.
There was one time when Bernstein did treat Larry like a caller when they hosted together.
Larry said something stupid and Bernstein went after him hard.

Spiegel stayed on Bernstein. He basically accused Bernstein of hating Christians.
Something this message board has been saying for years.

That is a pretty stupid thing to say. Bernsie is right.

God, you're pretentious! And you delude yourself by thinking you're some great speaker even though you're terrible. You know, I should have known you didnt read a medical study. If you had that ability, you wouldn't constantly be making the stupid physics denying medical guesses that you do. And I think what I hate most about you is your fake ass liberal agenda. And by the way, driving a Prius doesn't make you Jesus Christ! Oh, wait! You don't believe in Jesus Christ or any religion for that matter, because "religion is for idiots!" Well, who the hell are you to talk down to anyone? You failed to become a doctor, which isn't nearly as bad as your failure as an announcer! How's that play by play career coming along? But you know what? I could forgive all of that, all of it, if you weren't so predictable! That's the worst of it, Dan. You're just a small, sad, predictable non practicing Jew.

No, the stupid part is Dan says he doesn't push his religious beliefs on others. Rose isn't doing that, but Dan is pretending like he is. Helps the narrative.

yeah that was the oddest part to me of the whole exchange. Larry took his lips off of Bernsie's ass long enough to challenge him on something.

Refreshing.

Funniest part to me was both Dan and Matt admitted for the most part they don't believe in God and the Jewish are not the chosen people. Yet they still take off all the holidays. :?

Yet when asked the question he went all Terry Boers mumblin' fumblin' stumblin' about what he believes. For someone who lacks (or lacked) the conviction to make a statement, he sure is quick to condemn others (Rose) for a statement which DB failed to grasp the context.

What a phony. A small, petty, bigotted, phony.

Bernsy didn't admit that. He gave a non-answer "I don't know".

He's the best.

It should be fairly clear if you're paying attention that Dan is at least moderately observant. That's his business, of course, and the nuances of Judaism vis-a-vis Jewishness are pretty complex and hard to disentangle if you're an outsider, but it does make his railing against religion ring rather hollow.

To be fair, Matt said he enjoys the traditions of his culture and that's why he celebrates the Jewish Holidays.

What struck me about that exchange is when directly challenged about his beliefs, Danny turned into a stumbling, muttering buffoon. Lot easier to sit back, listen to others, think about it, then criticize their beliefs, huh?

Danny: Hey Theo, Jerry, Rahm, will you come to my kid's bar mitzvah?

Jerry: Sorry, I'll be in Arizona.

Theo: Sorry, Dan, you told me I needed to join the right Synagogue when I was hired...I didn't join yours for a reason. People at mine actually have faith in their religion.

Rahm: Can't do it. When asked directly if you believe in God and if Jews are the chosen people you couldn't give an answer. The correct answer is "yes" Danny. It's a simple question.

Danny: :( Spiegs? Terry? Drinky?

Drinky: Sorry, I don't really like Jews.

Terry: I'm hanging out my "not interested" sign on this one.

Spiegs: Fuck off.

Leary: Hey Dan, can I come?

Danny: This sucks.

Beardown: :D

Did anyone else find it really peculiar how Dan was ranting about Christmas decorations yesterday? Something about a really perfunctory menorah and then he kept shouting stuff like "THERE'S YOUR STUPID JEWISH THING, YOU STUPID JEWS" over and over. Between Dan Lee and CBS, I doubt this has ever been a sentiment of WSCR management. Did Chet successfully enact a hostile coup?
