The Cubs will be hard-pressed to duplicate the 30 home runs and 70 RBIs they received from their third basemen in 2013, but they have nearly four months to finalize their opening-day roster.

I just read this in the Trib. I knew they were getting good production last season from the composite ballplayers at 3rd but those numbers are impressive. I like Valbuena who is a slick glove man and gets on base just enough. Donnie Murphy came out of nowhere and did a great job, too. Theo said there are a lot of opportunities to make some trades this year. We will see.

Chase Headley's got this taken care of. Don't worry.

jesus christ almighty the cubs got 30HR/70RBI from their 3B spot last year? with a majority of valbuena out there and the ~10hr from 2013-bobby-scales, aka donnie "baseball" murphy? i had no idea.

it's kind of depressing that the cubs can somehow manage a post-a-ram year of 30HR/70RBI at 3B and still be as decidedly shit as they were/are/will-be. does bear bryant figure to be a 3B or a corner OF, as the cubs obviously have 1B locked up with the superpud anthony rizzo (and we all love him so)

that still made my morning tho.... 30HR from cubs' 3Bs last year? i had no idea.

I know the rumor is that they will move him to OF, but the No. 1 pick this year and the guy who was the MVP of the fall league (yes, I know it was just fall ball) plays 3rd base.

If they are moving him there because of some reason he might not be a top 3rd baseman defensively, OK, but I just hope it is not under the thought they have some prospects to see at 3rd.

Either way, this August roster better show me something. I dont care if AA comes to Wrigley, plays CF and misses 5 balls because of the sun, or he K's in 10 of his first 12 AB's, I want to see the pure talent these guys have, then let them develop.

Rizzo, is now in the development phase. he has shown pure power, now he needs to show improvement. That means improving as the season goes on, not declining as it goes on. 23/80/.233 OK fine, Yes, I need 30/100 and .260 from the guy at 1B.

This is what I thought. Sure you have others who might be able to man the position but I thought he was a top level defender at the position. Let Baez butcher the 1-2 balls that get hit to LF but have lock down IF defense.

Yup, kind of amazing a guy has a 10 year career and never comes close to number he put up as a 26 year old! hmmmmm

Looked like a guy who was going to have a nice career. One season wonder....The juice was still around, so I doubt he stopped using if he had been. I think the league just figured him out. Otherwise he could/would have gone back to the needle when things went bad.
