I just relistened to it. The exact quote from Bernsie was -

When you are honoring Ditka, there is something of a dinosaur here. You're honoring a time that has passed, a persona that has passed, a kind of following that is no more.

This from the host of the Who Ya' Crappin' Show. Have at it.

And yet, dan admits choosing his college af least to some degree because of the basketball team.

Well, considering the football team they put out there, he'd have a point.

The visitor's lockerroom at the University of Iowa is painted pink...Hayden Fry's idea, I guess. I always thought that was pretty funny.

If Bernsie's son wanted to wear this, I'd wager he would not be too thrilled about it.

During transition Terry said he didn't really care about Ditka, but every time I've tuned in today he's been talking about him.

That's a quote from the Score's Bears guru, folks.

I would love that as well. My heart would feel good to see the entire city buried under snow the entire weekend, ruining the Howard Stern birthday party and the NFL extravaganza

Here we go. Ditka went after a journalist.

I think I nailed this show's theme this morning.

I guess the same can be said for George Halas,Don Shula,Chuck Noll & Bill Walsh. What an asshole. It kills little Danny that everything he hates in a man and a coach reigns supreme in this town...Fuck that twerp!

I'd like to hear Bernsie's reaction to a tell-all book on Terry Boers if there were some unfortunate truths or vice-versa. Buy some perspective.

Who you crappin' again?

I just want to note that with our first real shovelable snowfall of the season, it's been about seven years since The Giant Pile of Salt joined B&B lore. I remember that being an exceptionally funny show: there was that bit, but then there was also some great self-mockery of the Bears Monday liners they were running. There was a montage of all the hosts' thoughts on the last game, while Dan's clip was just him shouting "BRIAN URLACHER IS BETTER THAN DICK BUTKUS!" without any semblance of context. Even Dan realized it was ridiculous and made him sound like kind of an unhinged idiot, so they just started screwing around with the liners, inserting completely random thoughts in between.

Man, this show was next-level shit once.

Outside of myself, there is no perfect man. Everybody has weakesses and has made mistakes. Ditka was no Saint (except for that short period). What he was and still is,the symbol for our Chicago Bears franchise. It was a classy move by George McCaskey to have this ceremony.

Dan seems to be consistent though. I never hear him like anything old. No 60-70's rock, no basketball before Jordan even though he'd like to forget Jordan too. I really can't recall him liking anything old and there must be a name for his condition. Anti boomer or something?

Sounds like quality radio. The people prefer that sort crap on the radio over Ditka talk really must have an IQ of zero.

Or we just find anything Ditka-related insufferable.

I get the whole iconoclast thing. I might even appreciate it once in a while. However, you cannot consider yourself the iconoclast and then scoop up everything thrown down by Reinsdorf and corporate america

I was on the young side to fully recall the Ditka era. But I do remember him mishandling (my perception) the QB controversies and the nonsense over the Fridge's weight. Then he was really bad at the end with his we won't win another game comment. Most folks I have talked to thinks those teams should have won another championship or two. Thus, the Ditka legend is more a case of poor memories and/or the lack of new good memories that forces us to be nostalgic.

That 1984 playoff win still ranks as one of my all-time favorite sport moments.

I would say the reason the Bears didn't win more was the McMahon issues and losing Wilbur Marshall than Ditka.

Wilbur Marshall killing the Detroit backup (where the microphones caught him laughing and saying: "they gonna need a new QB") or Plank trying to paralyze Jimmie Giles were at least equally bad.

Damn, I remember as a kid going out & publicly announcing I'm gonna make some 'Doug Plank' plays.
