He played very well again. Also, should have had 3 passes picked off. Thankfully, Dallas D is worse than the Bears and were clearly freezing and did not want to be out there last night.

It's funny that opposing defensive backs can somehow manage to hold onto rocket armed Jay Cutlers passes for picks but soft tossing Josh McCowns wounded ducks slip thru their hands.

You can't possibly view Alshon's TD last night as anything more than him making an awesome catch. He wasn't open.

Weren't two of his hypothetical picks on two consecutive plays? McCown had one bad drive where he should have had a turnover. I'll take 5 touchdowns and 1 turnover from my quarterback in any game.

They can't sign Cutler at this point. He can never match the man, the myth, the MacCowan. Cutler will be roasted by everyone in town the first game he loses...and every game thereafter. I really can't see him able to withstand the pressure.

No. That's the point. With how Alshon is playing you make those throws and let him win the battle. He totally outmatches the defensive player.

Matt Stafford would have 5 "should have been picked" throws a game.

Are you serious?

Cutler has made a CAREER out of throwing it into triple coverage for Marhsall to jump up and get.

Jeffery was as open as any receiver is in the endzone. That was a smart throw.

You've got Cutler glasses on, Dan

C'mon Dan if Cutler had thrown that pass all people would be saying is how he put that ball where only his guy could catch it and how it further demonstrates his greatness in making throws only he could make.

You and Brick disagreeing on this as well. He's right that's how Stafford has made way too much money in his career throwing that pass to Megatron.

I'm in a very spread the love/xmas spirit mood today. We'll agree to disagree. I'm a long standing Cutler apologist. Nothing McCown can do will make me think Jay shouldn't start when 100% healthy. However, if Jay struggles for a half or so, I wouldn't hesitate to yank him.

Both that pass and Alshon's catch on sideline should have been picked if Dallas CB's didn't suck. Of course Jay does that too. I'm just trying to put his night into some perspective.

I still don't think McCown is all that good but it's getting harder to justify that stance. If he leads them to the playoffs I think I have to go all in on him.

Why don't defensive backs simply hold up the WR's leg on those plays? Forego the ball. Let him have that, but just make sure you don't allow him to get that second foot down. Seems easier to do that than trying to rip the ball out of those vice grips, which is an impossible task.

I think it's becoming somewhat like the Smith vs Kaepernick controversy last year. You probably have to go with the hot hand at this point in the season, and perhaps bench McCown for Cutler is the former is struggling. I admit that I suspected Trestman rushed Cutler back from injury against Detroit because the coach was trying to hide McCown's weaknesses, but I was obviously dead wrong about that.

This is where we really learn about Trestman. Going back to Cutler may be the right call but it's going to be a disaster if Cutler doesn't perform just as well as McCown.

It will take a massive belief in Cutler to bench a guy who just scored 5 touchdowns for you.

Why would they want an injury prone over priced average @ best qb?

Everything in his career has shown me that this isn't him.

http://www.nfl.com/player/joshmccown/2505076/profile

All of the sudden he's a hall of fame player (I know you don't think that, but his stats this year are that of a HoF caliber QB)? I look at the careers of Jay and Josh. Realize Jay has had a better career therefore his 16 average will, in all likelihood, be better than Josh's. Sure there are some system that fit QB's better, but Josh was throwing to WIDE open receivers all night. I have confidence Jay would do the same.

If I'm Emery, I offer Jay a long term deal. I do not franchise him at this point. He's lost money with Josh playing so well. I draft a QB in the first 3 rounds.

Right now...

That was his 5th start. I need to see more to avoid a Grossman situation where he looked like an all-pro until the league figured him out.

No, but he's going to get a bigger contract than the one Boers & bernstein have insisted he will get as they told callers who disagreed they were "football retarded". Beyond that, the team that signs McCown for whatever the number is is much less likely to regret than the one who signs Cutler.

Well I think you stick with McCown until he starts to struggle. Going to Cutler is a lot easier to do if or when McCown starts to struggle, rather than now when he's putting points on the board at a rate Cutler hasn't met this season.

You are wasting either Jay or a rookie then.

The reason people wanted to franchise Jay was because they were concerned how the Bears had no answer for QB next year. Clearly, McCown is capable of holding down the position until a rookie is ready.

10 years ago, Jay would stay. Rookie QB's play all the time now. I'd be extremely confident with McCown + rookie next year with the extra $10 million a year spent on upgrading the defense.

Grossman really is slow, tiny, and white. McCown is a prototype quarterback from a physical standpoint. I honestly think he just never had the right opportunity. What his career is from here on out, I have no idea, but I think he can start in this league.
