Let me guess. He's comparing his mid-80s numbers to the douchebags who operate 21st century passing offenses. He must be right. Josh McCown is better than Johnny Unitas too.

somebody who's smart and has a lot of time can pull convincing numbers to show McMahon was a good QB when healthy.

I just don't have that time.

No research needed:

Super Bowl Champion. He also played great in the Super Bowl.

In the 5 years before the Bears launched him, he was 36-5 as a starter for an .878 winning %.

When he didn't start in that period, the Bears were 26-12 for a .684 winning %.

If you extrapolate that over a 16 game season, that is 3 wins/year.

Not only that, Todd Bell wouldve broke himself in 2 pieces if that were Adrian Petersen he hit and not Joe Washington

when did this narrative change to it being ok to launch Cutler with the appropriate cheaper replacement?

It's painful listening to Bernstein, the numbers guy, trying to pull out every intangible argument his brain can come up to diminish McCown's performance. Just on the way home I've heard that McCown:

1. Lacks arm strength to make certain throws
2. Is benefitting from Trestman's offense around him "gelling" (as if he has nothing to do with it)
3. Is too old (though I'd argue he's probably healthier and has more mileage left than the concussed, diabetic cripple)

I was happy to hear Hub state what I was thinking regarding the alleged interest in Cutler by the Titans...probably fabricated and floated by Cutler's agent.

Well he has to grasp at intangibles because he can't use performance comparisons yto poke holes at McCown

The "too old" thing irritates me.

He's 34. QBs can go into their late 30s in the NFL. We see it this year, we've seen it in the past. They're not like RBs. And they're more protected than ever in today's NFL. Also, keep in mind, McCown is a young 34 cuz he hasn't played much in the last 5 years or so. Hasn't taken the pounding.

McCown can perform at this level for at least 3 more years.

I decided to tune in for the first time in several days.

One of the few things that are more exasperating than "screamy" Bernstein, or "douchey" Bernstein, is "swerving all over the tollway" Bernstein. He changed the narrative so many times today, to the point that, again, no caller can win, no matter how intelligent the thought may be. When he got to the caller who started to side with Bernstein on the "Cutler is the better QB - remember that tight pass he threw to Marshall in the early Vikings game..." angle, Bernstein shot THAT down as well, saying to the effect that "((sigh)))We're past all this...can we not discuss it any more?" I PTFB'ed again.

Again, if Bernstein doesn't want to discuss anything on a CALL-IN SEGMENT, then why do it in the first place?

at 4:40 pm,I heard Bernstein take a sigh as he announced they will take more callers before the M. Bennet "show",which of course sucks for real!!

Here is a tip for WSCR,next time an athlete comes to town and cracks 3 or 4 jokes in an interview, that doesn't mean you give him a weekly show!

The Martellus Bennet show is as bad as WYC and any fantasy football segment. I can't really believe that either Terry or Dan think it's good, they're probably just waiting for the season to end so they can axe it. But if it comes back next year, shame on them.

Did they talk about cereal again? That's always gold. Or maybe Dan did something wacky and asked Martellus if doesn't like it when different foods on his plate touch each other.

Dan Bernstein's worst nightmare (upon waking from a ten year Bernstein van Winkle slumber):

DB: Who is the NFC MVP? Has Lebron become a tight end yet?

Us: Actually, no... To be fair, we have a couple NFC QB's fighting it out.

DB: Aaron Rodgers and who!? Drew Brees is still around!?

Us: Well, yes, but neither of those are contend....

DB: Stop! Don't give me some no-named, weak-armed quarterbacks who succeed only in snow!

Us: Well, there's Cutler's replacement (a third rounder) and another third rounder from Philly who has performed pretty we...

DB: Allow me time to puke. You're telling me a couple third round QB's who were previously backups are in the NFC MVP conversation?

Us: Well, yes, they have limited sample size, but...

DB: You know nothing of sample size! Are you a Jewish attorney who is a baseball general manager!? I think not... Come back to me when you are aware of the intricacies of...

Us: Well, actually, Dan, our football coach is a lawyer and also likes Josh Mcco...

DB: Stop yourself. I don't know who this third round draft pick is, but he is surely unworthy of any consideration, given his lack of... (murmer) arm... and... (murmer)... experi...(murmer)... trial experience!

Us: Cutler is not a lawyer, Dan.

DB: I'll look into it, small fry.

Beardown: :P

Here is the bottom line.....The Bears have the best backup quarterback in the league and is he's doing a tremendous job while Cutler gets healthy :D

One thing for sure,if Cutler throws some key picks in a game,he can no longer talk about it out of the side of his mouth like no big deal. It is a big deal when the guy behind you puts heat on your ass.

Remember Jay:Today's hot shot is tomorrows memory.

i've been a "jay needs to not have devin hester as his number 1 wr, a paper line, and a new OC every year before he's successful" guy for a while. jay was on pace for 30 td's before he was injured and of course 15 or so picks. my beef with mccown is beating up on turd defenses is kind of clouding the crystal ball a bit.

That being said, to not take the 5-6 game sample size and not see that there is SOMETHING there beyond a min contract, you are a baffoon.

bernsie changes the narrative every hour so its generally quite infuriating.

The problem is that it doesn't really matter if Jay Cutler can succeed in an offense anyone can succeed in because of all the talent there. McCown is exposing just how little Jay Cutler matters.

That's it right there. And it doesn't matter if Trestman's system is the cause. There seems to be this idea that "if McCown can do this in the system, imagine what Cutler can do". But it doesn't work that way. Cutler has played in the system and done no better. The other idiotic idea is that McCown is the elusive "replacement player". There has to be a core level of competence. McCown obviously has that. I don't think you're going to bring in Caleb Hanie or Rex Grossman and have him do as well just because Trestman running the show. I don't think McCown is John Elway, but I don't understand why some afternoon radio shows are so reluctant to give him any credit at all.

That "Monk" moment forced me to PTFB. MartyB broke down how gravy should be handled and Bernstein went tard in response. Reelly bad radio.

Meanwhile, I got to hear Brandon Marshall wax on about how great Jay Cutler is despite Josh Mc Cowan's great performance.

Do B&B really want Martellus Bennett? Hopefully this goes the way of the Gordon Beckham segments.

I unfortunately think Dan is correct that the decision to kick on 2nd down is going to be the move that dooms this season.
