It's a Wednesday Night Rivalry game on the Outdoor Life Network tonight, so gird your loins for creepy Pierre McGuire and his uncomfortable relationship with Eddie Olczyk. Foley got a good dig in on the whole thing the other night if you had your listening ears on.

The Flyers are a Raidersesque shitshow these days: old guy calling all the shots, front office stocked with incompetent ex-players, stupid brawls, and general bad decisions at every possible turn. They're being coached by a guy who once used the n-word on another player. After this trickled out, they announced a long-term extension for him. Everyone's hurt or bad and it's only by the grace of an effective Mason/Emery platoon, of all things, that they've done fucking anything this year. The team sucks, their division sucks, and their conference sucks, so this should be a safe win after this recent gauntlet of Western play. The only real concern is that it's a road-to-home back-to-back with a third-string goalie. Other than that, though, smooth sailing, right?

Flyers: 13-14-3 (29), 12-15-3 adjusted (27), 25.897 expected
Hawks: 22-6-5 (49), 18-8-7 adjusted (43), 43.223 expected

Flyers: 2.233 scored (27th), 2.533 allowed (14th), -0.300 differential (22nd)
Hawks: 3.576 scored (1st), 2.667 allowed (16th), 0.909 differential (2nd)

Flyers: 19/110 15.2% on the power play (19th), 105/125 84.0% on the kill (10th)
Hawks: 25/109 22.9% on the power play (5th), 71/95 74.7% on the kill (28th)

Foley will call the Flyers a .500 team if they win tonight.

I did some quick math in Excel and found that the point inflation .500 mark, which is to say leaguewide points earned divided by leaguewide games played*2, is at .562, or roughly a 92-point season. Obviously, this number will fluctuate in proportion to the number of loser points awarded throughout the league, but I would expect it to land somewhere between .555 and .565. So when you inevitably hear that so-and-so had 91 points and still missed the playoffs, what an amazing season we're having in the NHL, remember that team is just average.

EDIT: so-and-so will probably be Dallas like it always is

Not related to the game tonight but a really great interview with Kanes and Toews for all of you who have some time to kill.

Impressive work CH. What pisses me off is that Pat and Eddie fall into these dumb traps. Is it me or are they becoming more annoying?

Well that picture is as gay as the shots in their Chevy commercials.

Nah, they're fine. I've heard Howie Rose refer to it as "the NHL's strange concept of .500" on Islanders games, but nobody from the league is going to call up and give him trouble for it. He has to watch every Islanders game.

What was Foley's dig for those of us who were intoxicated?

Olczyk was pointing out how the bench doors at the United Center are offside, so you can't use the door to make an onside line change in the second. Foley noted that with bigger players and more bench personnel than there used to be, it's hard to get on and off the benches sometimes. Olczyk said "then they need to make the benches longer." Pat, laughing, says "oh, but then there wouldn't be any room for your on-ice analyst between the benches!" Then they had one of their little shared giggle fits.

I heard that live, but didn't make the connection. Was that a dig at the human penis?

Wow NBC's feed looks glorious compared to CSN. Something must be done about that.

Great, as soon as a black guy actually gets in the United Center for a Hawks game he starts a fight
