My latest favorite miserable facebook people are new parents who now have all the answers and thus are dispensing advice on facebook.

I didn't have time for examples, but here are a couple:
father of a six month old after just taking them to Disneyworld for a week wrote:
Advice to new parents:
There will be people who question why you do certain things with your child, especially travel. Why do something your infant or toddler will never remember?
Ignore these people.
Measure the value of the experience in the joy on your child's face, not the memories your child may or may not make.
Your memories of that joy have value.
Life is short, all too short. Do what you think will bring joy into your family's life (within reason). Make magic now, not some imagined future that may never exist.

idiot mother of a four month old who graduated with a 1.7 gpa and bitches her degree will not get her in grad school wrote:
It is interesting that in recent years “self-soothing” has become an ideal in the pediatric advice to mothers. It is said to be a good thing that a child is able to “self-soothe”. This is stated particularly in relation to breastfeeding. “Do not breastfeed your baby to sleep”, the experts say. But why? Well, basically because that child no longer makes demands on the parents, particularly the mother. After all, a baby who breastfeeds to sleep will continue to want to breastfeed to sleep and that is meant to be inconvenient. It is true that babies can be inconvenient to our lifestyle. But our lifestyle can be very damaging to babies and perhaps we need to rethink what we do while raising children. The fact that in the long run it is easier to breastfeed a baby to sleep, the fact that babies and toddlers love this and often so do mothers is ignored. The idea is to render the child “independent” as if forcing “independence” is a good thing. However, independence that is forced is not true independence; independence that comes out of security is. The self-soothing” approach is applied to carrying of babies. “If you carry your baby, he won’t be able to self-soothe. He won’t be able to do without you. He won’t become independent.” This is just so much nonsense. Babies were made to be carried and babies should be carried and they will, as they get older, want to be carried less and less. And eventually they will want to be carried only when they are tired. It will happen more rapidly than you expect. And maybe you will even miss carrying them.

I cannot count how many times in the last four months I've been warned about "spoiling" the baby. This is pretty much my stance on such notions. Those who think otherwise can lecture me until they're blue in the face - if I'm still carrying Dylan around in sling or wrap when he's going to college orientation, I'll eat my hat.

I was gonna say....

A 3 1/2 year engagement gives somebody a hell of a lot of time to make other plans.

I'd almost think it was a joke if it wasn't a friend of a friend. I love that guy.

I wanna spend the rest of my life with you starting in 4 years!

My wife and I were about 18 months, and that seemed much longer than anyone else I know who has gotten married.

I'm sure there are a lot of people who's engagements have to be less than 9 mos.

I think mine was 15 months or so. Depends on what kind of wedding you plan on having. If you have a
particular place or weekend in mind you usually need to look a year out. I proposed in the winter and got
married the following June. 2 years or more seems a bit much.

We were 17 months. If you are paying for most of the wedding yourself, you need at least a year and a half to save up for everything.

On Monday morning, a fb friend of mine put this on facebook:

Quote:
If "live status-ing" the last throes of a marriage with young children unnerves you, you're gonna wanna hit the "Unfriend" button now. My family (sans kids) has long been dead to me and I've long processed emotional pain with gallows humor and friends, so here goes...

Needless to say, I made some popcorn and sat at my computer and watched as he went OFF. His wife was divorcing him (merry christmas!) and it led to twelve hours of uncomfortable (but train-wreck like watching) updates every half-hour or so.

He's deleted most but here are a few:
Quote:
On the one hand, divorce. On the other hand, no more guilt over the closeted skeletons she has no idea about!

Is it a bit nippy outside in your neck of the woods? Are you outta firewood? Fret not! Here's what you do: Get your wife to divorce you, round-up all your wood-framed wedding photos, and voila, the warmth that only a shattered marriage can provide is yours!

The good news is that divorce will drastically reduce my likelihood of ever being charged with wifeicide.

Those looking to whack-off to my FB pictures of my beautiful wife should probably rub one out soon, cuz that shit is coming down right quick.

As I'm posting these to all 1,337 friends, including XXXXX's family and friends who I never post to and who had no idea she is divorcing me, I'm pretty sure her phone is lighting up about now. Sorry, hon. (No I'm not!) But like butter, I'm on a roll!

Admit it: As awkward as this is to follow, it beats working on TPS reports in your cubicle.

Sympathy head is now being accepted at XXXXXX. Please enter through the garage and turn right into the basement guest room. Kindly bring your own knee pads.
