It will be hard to top The Naked Gun. What athlete that will become a murderer will star in it?

Ed Helms might be a good choice but it all depends on the script.

I actually generally like him but this is a horrible mistake.

What made it funny was that Nielsen was actually a serious actor. In fact, the more he tried to be funny, the less funny he became.

They should get a serious actor to play it straight. Having a comedian do it will have it lose the edge that actually made it funny. Somebody like Jim Caviezel or Robert Patrick, some super-serious guy to play it.

I could see this. Also, I don't like the idea of using the Frank Drebin character. Make the guy Frank's
nephew or something like that.

I agree with all of the objections and yet, I could still see it working somehow

Yup. Worked spectacularly for this movie:

Probably a good example of what this reboot is going to turn into.

i still think that's ackyroyd's finest performance. he was pitch perfect. ed helms has a characteristic that i think blows his cover if he's going to mimic frank drebin. ackyroyd had a knack for being utterly serious even in being funny. and he's done some wonderful dramatic work like in "my girl" and "driving miss daisy". i'm not sure ed helms can pull this off...and this didn't need to be rebooted at all. but...it's just the way things are now.
