I've done this before with people who are chronically late. Like 2-3 times a month, and more than just a few minutes. I don't like doing it but sometimes you have to send a message.

I hate being late to work, social functions, band practice, family parties, anything. My wife sometimes has no sense of urgency as to when we need to leave the house. If I'm not a few minutes early, I'm late.

No one wants you at their party early.

Not necessarily true. Early at the party means more hands to help out.

Hey Boyd, could you do me a favor? Make sure nobody taps on the glass.

i dont like people who are always late.. or late often... but once a month or so is no big deal at all. but i REALLY hate when you show up to a job for 6 months alway EARLY, like at least 15min early everyday... and the one day you show up 5min late- the FIRST time, you have a meeting with the bosses and they ask whats wrong, then they write you up for being late and threaten to hold your raise back.

you know what? fuck your stupid job. how about we go back and add up all the seconds i started work early? wanna pay for that? fucking assholes, i hate low rent jobs.

So, my real job includes being constantly observed/recorded as much as anyone here, from the time I roll on site I can be tracked multiple ways. Yet, our time keeping methods are completely on the honor method- we enter start and stop times manually. With a shift that runs 6-6, we get paid time-and-a-half turnover time for 18 minutes at the start of each shift, so on the clock 0542. I typically arrive on site an hour before that, and am turning over to my relief guy by 0500. There are times when I immediately head into the field to pick up a job in progress. At the end of shift, he shows up on time, we talk, I hang around for my other guys to get relieved, and I am the last out the door to my truck by quarter till or so, 13 hours after arriving.

On the way to the lot, we pass the shitbag straggler from our relief shift walking in the sidewalk, already getting paid 1.5X money, but no where near at work. And the fucker has been this way since he got hired in 6 years ago. His bullshit excuse is that he just leaves later than everyone else, so the time works out- a personal flex time setup- but we all know that he never is there to pick up a job at the beginning of shift, nor is he gonna be out working at the end of shift, just sitting around bullshitting with the relief guys who are already there!

The worst part, is the unwritten rule that we NEVER take this up the ladder, lest we rock the boat and bring the spotlight on everybody. Most guys skate out a little early, if relieved, but nowhere near as bad as this guy. Nobody else wants the rigid legalism that would so soothe my misaligned brain. And now I find out I actually get this guy assigned to my shift starting the New Year- the perfect chance for some serious mentor/coaching/riding his ass until he shapes up!

This scenario did lead to the best line I had ever heard about a coworker, when a shift mate of the offender once told me-" cut the kid some slack, remember, he's the first member of his family to hold a job that doesn't involve shoveling shit or sucking cock down an the wharf". Almost worth it.

End of sini-mode, Ke out.

I can deduce that it does not entail item-specific shoveling, wharves, or, you know, that other thing.

He could still be a longshoreman... They said sucking cock down at the wharf, nothing about loading or unloading barges.

Sure, Hank. I don't know what kind of reading material you're into, but how many noncocksucking longshoremen do you know?

At my job, you can start at any location in northern illinois... I've had to start in Gurnee and Harvard, Aurora and Genoa and all points in between including the fucking city (hate working there) and you have to be there at 8 am. No exceptions. None.
At my 6 month review last year, they told me that over the previous 6 months I was a total of 12 minutes late. Once was because I got sent the wrong address (gave me a McHenry address instead of a Johnsburg address, not exactly my fault, 9 minutes late) and 3 individual instances of being 1 minute late. That means my truck ignition was turned off at 8:01 instead of 8:00. Three times. And they noted it.
At my 1 year review they said I was a total of 4 minutes late the next six months. One instance, 4 minutes. Got stuck behind a nasty tbone right in front of me at 22 and 14 in Fox River Grove.
It's absolutely ridiculous that they give us shit for that kind of stuff. It's not like we take the same route to the same place every day and we know exactly how long the drives are, whether there's construction en route, and god forbid there's an accident or something unpredictable.

They noted those incidents which is pretty draconian but what does it mean overall ? did it affect your raise or was it more just a way of saying we're watching you? The more I think about the fact that I lost an entire days pay for being 13 minutes late is pissing me off more and more. I filed an EEOC complaint today but nothing is going to come of it . The union says there's really nothing they can do which I can't believe. Overall 3 of us were sent home , from what I hear several others were allowed to stay and the manager doesn't have to explain why. So over the next couple months or so Im going to find 30 minutes or so of overtime a day until my lost days pay is made up. Its easy enough to do and not get caught.By the way today, no managers on site to monitor start times as usual. so i guess it was only yesterday that it was important to do that. Cock suckers.

Where I work, in a 12 month period I think you are allowed to be late 7 times before you get written-up. The 8th, you get fired.

We are required to be at work 15 minutes before school starts. I'm usually there about 40 minutes early since I have to leave right away after school to get to coaching stuff most days. Ive been late past the point of class starting twice in nine years.

-The first time the viaducts flooded near the school (former job) during a morning down pour. I was about 45 minutes late after finding a non flooded route through a neighborhood near our school. Turned out more than half our school called off that day cause roads were so bad.

- The second time was a couple years ago and my alternator went out at a stop light on my way to work. After pushing my car into a parking lot and calling a tow, my principal actually picked me up from the shop my car was dropped off at near the school and took me back there to get my car later in the day.

I guess I should add my wife is never on time for any type of engagement and it annoys the hell out of me. If there is somewhere we have to be where I feel it is imperative we cant be late, I just lie to her about what time we have to be there.

I bet they don't have a hawk watching over the person who does the study for them to see how much money it saves the company over a year to be this anal about starting times. I wonder what tactic they use to ensure lunch does not go one second over the allotment.

can you post the name of the company? i want to forward it to 4chan so they can troll them into oblivion.

no matter though, they will fail eventually anyway... unless they can make it far enough that robots become cheap enough to replace humans. thats what these companies see their employees as anyway.

This post describes a war on the working man.

Reminds me of Abaddon from Enlightened.
