I had read that this was no good but I wanted to see it since I'm interested in the source material. It's hard to describe how awful it really is. And it's sad, because I think someone could have made a movie based on this story with the same actors and had it be great.

To begin with, they used on-screen comic book style graphics and cartoon balloons. I'm not sure if the intention was to set up scenes for the stupid or if it was simply a stylistic choice. At first, I figured they would just be used at the beginning of the movie, but they persisted throughout. The most absurd probably being when Stiv Bators was receiving a blowjob on stage and the scene ended with a cartoon balloon that read POP!

Alan Rickman played Hilly Kristal who was the lead character and he was good as he almost always is. But when Ron Weasley showed up as Cheetah Chrome I expected Snape to begin teaching a class on potions right there on the Bowery. The little redhead had a constant grimace on his face as if he had been trying to take a shit for a month and couldn't get one out. It was most pronounced when he was "playing" guitar.

Which brings me to the most dreadful- or perhaps most awesome, I'm not exactly sure yet- part of the movie. When the various bands would play in the club, they used the original studio recordings and the actors lip-synched. This provided a very odd effect that reached a pinnacle near the end when The Police showed up "from England" and auditioned with a pristine studio version of "Roxanne".

did you ever see the miniseries "the 60's"? it's that kind of movie...laughable but also kind of insulting because it could've been done a whole lot better.

Is that who that was? The guy from the Foo Fighters? He was ridiculous. Not as ridiculous as the guy who played Lou Reed though.
