I'm thinking about doing it. Let me know your stories so I know if I'll get crushed or not.

I did it. Cop still showed up. Wasted half a day to save $10 on the ticket.

What are your options? When I got my ticket, it was going to cost me about 50% less if I just accepted it so I did.

If the prosecution needs a character witness for you give them my information.

If it's a speeder and you didn't go 30+ over never, never, never pay the ticket. Go to court and see if you can get supervision rather than take the automatic conviction.

For me, to get supervision, you had to plead guilty by mail.

if you live in the suburbs, the cops will always show up. in the city it's possible they won't if it's a trivial ticket. don't contest it. just pay it.

Where, when, and how fast would also be critical variables.

Just the other day I saw an article that talked about any tickets 70 and less on the expressways (et al) are generally dismissed with prejudice.

It's a rolling through a stop sign ticket to which she said I don't think we have tape and it was her opinion that I rolled after coming to a stop sort of but then rolled thru.

Believe it or not I'm a pretty safe driver. I don't want my kids to have bad driving habits so I try not to do them, they were not in the car today. I check my odometer to see it's at 0, look both ways, and go. I speed like crazy on highways and go 5 over on busy streets if I get caught so be it. I've gotten 4 in my life, 3 for speeding in my early 20s and 1 about 7 years ago for violating a median which I did not know at the time was illegal. Residential I'm really good, those are neighborhoods. So I guess I'm kinda pissed.

I felt a little bad for making them explain everything to me for so long. It was cold today, I think they ended up being sorry they pulled me over. Nobody checked my tires with a penny.

I've never wished I were a median before today.

If you've got a clean driving record then it's worth asking for supervision. Pull up your driving abstract online and if you don't have any prior moving violations you should be eligible for supervision. If you don't have another moving violation during the four months you're on supervision then your record remains clean rather than having a conviction that you can't get rid of.

I wouldn't bet one red cent on beating a she-said/cop-said rolling-stop case .... get your supervision and be done with it.

FWIW, insurance companies do not raise rates for most tickets ... it would only matter if you wanted to shop around in the next 2-3 years from that aspect.

What does a clean driving record net you? Not being confrontational; I literally have no idea ... and mine is clean, btw.

Tear it up, act like you never got it. If they come to your house to cart you off in cuffs, tell them you don't adhere to their "rules". & call them pigs.

I only contested one, got a ticket for being the last car in a three car accident.
The reason I fought it was the driver of the second car was texting...admitted she did it, didn't stop when the car infront of her stopped after a crest in a hill... and I still got the ticket. It was thrown out.
That wasn't a she said/cop said situation, I agree those are harder to fight because the cop has some sort of stake in the fight. My case the cop told me to go to court to fight it but he had to write it.

It wasn't a speeding ticket, but a lot of people have found So You Got A Speeding Ticket helpful for speeding tickets. I figured I'd post it in case someone finds it interesting or helpful.

BTW, if your odometer reads zero more than once something isn't right.

Some hipster chick at the bar was complaining that she tried to sign up to drive strangers around for money and the company, uber?, rejected her because she had a speeding ticket. Image

Actually, thats one violation you might very well be able to beat. Most officers aren't even aware of the exact wording of the violation. A driver is required to come to a complete stop AT THE STOP LINE. Most officers who write these violation focus on the stop sign. Often the line is not even with the stop line. If they are not even, take pictures. When you go to court, you are allowed to question the officer. Ask her in what manner you violated the statute. If she says that you failed to stop fully at the stop sign, you have it made. You ask what that has to do with the statute? When she fucks up the statute, you point out that it states that the law requires that you stop at the stop LINE, which you did, but you then proceeded slightly forward slowly, because you are a cautious driver and were making sure nobody was failing to yield the right of way, before proceeding fully. Look up the statute under the Illinois Motor Vehicle Codes, which are available online. Print it out and read it after the officer gets it wrong. You can then request that the ticket be dismissed based upon the fact that the testimony given by the officer, clearly shows that officer has written a citation for a motor vehicle violation that she herself lacks a clear understanding of. Photographs taken at the right angle can make it appear as if the sign and Stop Line are different enough to make your claim plausible too. But if the officer fucks up when describing the definition of the statute, the photos will not even be important.

Merry Christmas

I was in court in Franklin Park a long time ago when an older woman went before the judge because she had rolled through a stop sign. The judge questioned the officer and he said he watched the ladies wheels and they never came to a total stop. She replied, "That's a trick. The wheels may have been moving, but the car was stopped and I didn't know they were still moving. How was I supposed to know that?" The whole courtroom exploded in laughter including the cops and the judge, who finally said, "Guilty, Ma'am, pay the fine!"

Just tell the court you were rushing to your friend's house because he was distraught that he finally learned he would never become a banker.
