It just bothers me. I figured it out last Sunday.

I heard Hub present the scenario that if the Packers and Lions lose, the game is meaningless for the Bears. NO. If that happens the Bears can clinch the division. I've heard others not know it either.

If Packers win and Lions lose: Philly game is meaningless for Bears except for the 3 or 4 seed.

If Packers lose and Lions lose: Bears can clinch Sunday night

If Packers lose and Lions win and Bears lose: The Bears and packers would need the Lions to lose in the final week. Then the winner of the Bears/Packers game would win the division. If the Lions win the last week, Bears packers is meaningless. Lions are champs.

Got it Chicago media?

Seriously, you would think they would know it. THEY DON'T.

How is the game meaningless for the Bears?

The Lions are 7-7. If they lose and win next week they finish 8-8
If the Bears lose both games, they are 8-8.

Because if the Lions lose this Sunday, somebody has to win the Packers/Bears game. Bears are at 8 wins. Packers are at 7, but they have a tie, one less loss than the Lions. So Lions can't win.

What do you want me to say. Nobody gets it. Just stare at the standings and it will be clear to you.

Every person bringing up these scenarios seems to count on the Lions losing to the Giants, who will be without their best offensive weapon in Cruz. If the Lions beat the Giants, the Steelers beat the Packers, and the Eagles beat the Bears, which are all very real possibilities, the Lions are in the drivers' seat, with their final game against the Viqueens.

Too many folks have their head out in front of their skis.

well chus, idk if the giants are a betting concern for you (quoteth artie lange's gambling uncle, going out with a chick = 50/50 chance of getting laid, but betting on the giants will always get you fucked =) or if you play fantasy football, but man victor cruz has been pretty much worthless for the last ~5-6 weeks.

yes, i know mentioning fantasy football/stats = instant ignore from many luminaries here, but it doesn't take rocket science to figure out that when a guy has a 6-8 week run of 10 points or less (with the only exception being a ~12pt game in a 0.5ppr league) that he's not doing much offensively. i don't think he's scored a touchdown since week 4, and if he's had any 100yd games this year they all went down on week 4 or earlier.

simply put, cruz has been marinated ass this year, so losing him might not be as big of a loss as you think. suffice to say, if eli can successfully throw the ball to giants only they'll have a chance of doing pretty well, especially when andre brown had been a revelation since his week ~11ish return, save a ~70yd clunker 2 weeks ago b4 the proper reckoning at the hands of the seahawks last week.

so yeah, tl;dr = it's not like the giants are going to be without 2012-or-earlier cruz where he was a top-5 NFL WR.... they're going to be without a guy who would be in the conversation of biggest fantasy football bust of 2013 in a world where ray rice doesn't exist.

i think the giants are very capable of giving the generous/dumbass lions a game.... how much of one? idk. i'd favor the lions to win by 2/+ possessions if all things were equal, but then again the lions had no business losing to the ravens last week, let alone the bucs a few weeks ago.... and they prolly should have beat the iggles in the snow.... so yeah, they're a wildcard in that they're playing so shit they have no chance at a wildcard unless the division comes back to them.

and the giants could re-sign ramses barden and his 6'6 ass would have a fighting chance of getting 100+ and a score.

I didn't say that Cruz was having a great year, but he is their best weapon. Nicks has zero TDs, and those running backs are nothing special.

Bottom line is, I think the Lions win here.

Even if the Lions win Sunday, if the Bears and Packers win, the Lions are eliminated.

If the Packers win out, the Lions are eliminated as well.

i really hope the packers lose so there's basically no chance rodgers comes back (assuming that in any situation short of the pack/bears/lions all losing, a loss means that GB would be eliminated)

although i still figure matt flynn and eddie lacy can team up to beat the bears.... cuz even tho i know i should be afraid of shadeball mccoy and nick foles and desean jackson going HAM on the bears, really, i have this built in mental block with the packers like i assume the bears do in figuring that the bears can't beat the packers.

i'd say the only reason the bears won their previous encounter was because rodgers got hurt, and that meant seneca wallace whose reign in GB lasted 1+ weeks tops.... not to mention the calming influence of McGod allowed the bears to not have cutler throw 4+ interceptions and therefore they held on to win 27-20 or 23-17 or whatever it was.

i just have this sinking feeling that the bears might be able to get a win this sunday night and then they'll turn around and shit the bed / lose-the-packers'-super-bowl in week 17. hope i'm wrong.... but at this juncture it's not like they're missing out on a rigged lottery situation if they make the playoffs, so since it's only a difference of like ~3-6 picks in the grand scheme of things, i feel confident that phil emery could just as easily blow the #12-14 pick as he could blow the #15-18 pick, or whatever the difference in making the 1st round of the playoffs is.

Here's hoping so and kinda hoping not, cause I don't mind that team being stupid as they are.
