What a steaming fucking pile of dreck. 3 fucking Scorcesean hours of horseshit. Only redeeming quality was Margot Robbie as his mistress/ second wife. She's absolutely stunning to look at and not the least bit afraid to be naked. Jonah Hill continues his string of annoying chubby guy trying to be skinny guy roles. Really if you must see one movie this holiday season, make sure its not this . Brogues rating :x out of :D :D :D :D

Holy shit is that disappointing.

This was the one movie I was looking forward to. Rogue, do you ususally not like Scorcese movies or was this just a bad one?

Has anyone seen American Hustle yet? Haven't seen a good movie in a long time, and have read good things about this one.

No I usually love Scorcese. Maybe I wasn't in the right mind for this but its basically Wall Street / Boiler Room meets Goodfellas. Trust me , you've seen this movie before, its nothing new and not a very interesting take on an already overdone subject. It was loud, overlong by at least an hour and just not a very watchable movie . Hope someone else on the board who has seen it chimes in, Id like to hear their take on it.

Had a feeling it would be shit, especially when every trailer scene contains her.

Just saw @AmericanHustle and I don't know what all the hype is about. Very slow and lacking in much that is compelling. Whole family agreed.

I just noticed my partner posted that it sucked on his Facebook page too. I normally wouldn't pay much attention to another guy's review of a movie, but here are two guys with whom I share a lot of sensibilities saying the same thing. I was looking forward to a Casino or Goodfellas type epic. Very disappointing.

I read an article about the real guy, Jordan Belfort in some magazine. He seemed like a colossal tool. I was wondering how Scorcese was going to make him likeable enough to watch for two hours. One thing about this Belfort, he's a hell of a salesguy and a first class conman. Even the FBI guy that tried to put him in prison enjoys going to lunch with him. He's still living a high lifestyle even though he's supposed to be paying a certain percentage of his income in restitution. The feds think he's ducking that responsibility, but I doubt they can nail him. He's too smart and too slippery.

And I'm pretty sure that J.T. Marlin in Boiler Room was based on Stratton Oakmont.

Still seeing it.

I still think it will be good.

Sounds like Brogue has "had enough" of the "overdone" subject matter

I can see that, but there is no way you're gonna like a movie when you already think the subject is played out

Scorcese is an automatic for me.

And yeah, Ive heard its like a Scorcese mixtape.....sounds good to me!

Believe me Bryan, I wanted to like it. My take on it could very well be wrong . I like Wall Street type films normally but with this one I don't know , it just wasn't getting it done for me. That's why I'm hoping another CSFMB'er will see it and offer their take. One of the few films I've ever seen that I couldn't wait till it ended .

All I have seen about this movie online were comments that Scorsese should be embarrassed by all the sexual debauchery in it.

My list of holiday relases that I want to see was Wolf of Wall St, American Hustle and Anchorman 2 in that order. I'm with Bryan, I still want to see it despite the bad reviews. Some people can get burned out on Scorsese, but not me.

he failed to make him likable enough to watch for two minutes. the first time i watched a 3 minute trailer, i wanted to shut it off within 30 seconds.

i think that's already a known thing...i think it all fell apart in the late 90's and "boiler room" came out in 2000. that movie was decent.

i don't think you can deny him in "gilbert grape". or "this boy's life".

he has admitted he has to pretty much thank river phoenix's death for his career. most of the early roles he got (including "basketball diaries") were going to river phoenix.
