You never saw Apollo training Rocky?


That is VITAL to IV's storyline with SPOILER ALERT Apollo dying

man watching that gets me pumped up. Takes me back to being a kid and seeing the trailer on tv and begging my mom to take me to the theater to see it. The first one I saw on the big screen. Man that was an awesome day! I can still remember my mom saying outloud in the theater, "hit him Rocky, hit him."

Nope...I knew that happened but never watched it...

Apollo died in IV. M.i.c.k. died in III.

Here is part 1 of a real good documentary on the Rocky Story. Really enjoyed this.

Couple of tidbits I do not remember hearing before that I learned from the documentary:

-Ivan Drago actually put Rocky in the hospital for like 5 days during the Rocky 4 filming. He hit him so hard in the chest he caused his heart to swell and was in ICU.

-Original plan for Rocky V was for Rocky to die, but the studio refused to go through with that.

I remember reading that Stallone nearly drown while filming a training segment, where he was swimming laps in a pool as part of his cardio regiment. I don't recall which film it was for sure, but i thought it was #4.

Finally broke down and watched Rocky Balboa today. I have to say - it was pretty damn good as a Rocky movie.

If you setup your level of suspension of disbelief to general Rocky movie levels, then it puts a very nice cap on the whole series. If only we could pretend V never happened, perfect series.

But, I couldn't believe I was actually starting to buy that "sure, it could go down that way" as the movie went on. Plus, there were a couple solid scenes with him and his kid or him and Paulie.

It was like a Rocky All-Star game, giving you bits and pieces of stuff you liked in a nice, little movie.

Oh man, Rocky 4 had a runtime of around 90 minutes and it feels as if 35 minutes of that is comprised of montages, whether training or flashback ones. In fact, the "No Easy Way Out" montage had footage from earlier in the film.

Yeah, life can knock you out speech was great.

And Paulie is always hilarious.


Also, I got a kick out of Max Kellerman's commentary about how he couldnt believe he was calling a Rocky fight. Kind of a wink at the audience there.

Only a true CLASSIC could pull that off

And previous films in the series, too. Only 10 minutes of new footage was shot for Rocky IV and then put in a loop with some scenic shots of mountains and racing cars.

I enjoyed that also. I don't even think Kellerman was acting at that point by the look on his face. He's not that good of an actor.

The only downside of the whole thing was the lack of Stu Nahan. EDIT - which is what I was going to say until I looked up to see when he died and he was apparently the announcer of the computer simulation. I went back and watched it and I would have never recognized it.

Yes, and it only leaves Rocky, Tony, and Paulie as the ones alive in all 6 movies

Also LOVE that Adrian died before the movie.

I guess Tony needed a kind of man like that in his life after all.

The main flaw is that it was bad jokes from Skip Bayless that spurred Rocky back to fighting.

By the way the ref was completely worthless in the Apollo Drago fight

First of all you Drago just pushes him away when he's trying to separate them and this is after Drago threw Apollo out of the tie up. if he would have stelped in and reset them as referees are prone to do it's a verydifferent round. Drago only landed 8 punches (granted they were bombs) before the tie up and then he went in for the final 26 after the ref just let him go


Apollos blood is on the ref, Rocky, and Tony in that order

They all were horrid. For the same reasons. They fit nothing except the proverbial little guy's fantasy.
