Going to Vegas in 3 weeks. Which mid priced hotel located on the strip is the best? Various sites with reviews seem to have vastly different opinions. I trust you more than various sites with reviews.

Planet Hollywood seems to be the leader in the clubhouse so far, but we're only done with the first round.

Go downtown, and stay at the Golden Nugget.

I got a great deal on Mandalay Bay on one visit and the room was beautiful. I like the Bellagio a lot, but that's definitely not mid-range. Have you checked all the discount sites (Expedia, etc.) ? Check VEGAS.com they have rooms at Mandalay Bay right now from 69.95 and Air and Hotel deals from $149.95

This.

Great pool.

But why go for a "mid-ranged" hotel? Aren't you supper rich and stuff? This must be because of one of your "poor" friends, right?

The Tropicana has been redone and is fairly decent now.

The Las Vegas Hilton has also be remodeled and I think they've rebranded it as LVH. It's down on the end of the Strip, but you can get a good deal there and the sports book is great.

Stayed here a couple of times and had zero complaints. Likely the best in old Vegas. I like
gambling down there as well the Horseshoe.

I used to stay there all the time. I loved downtown before they put up that canopy that attracts families of drunken hillbillies.

I don't know how much difference in dollars we are talking about here but we always stay at the Mirage.
They have great food, great pool and a zoo! I also think it's one of the nicer looking hotels.

WILHELM: You mean you haven't been to payroll?

GEORGE: Payroll? No, no, I haven't done that.

WILHELM: Well, what's the problem? Now come on George. I told the big man you were moving on this. Now, don't let him down!

I have to agree with Racist Steve on this, Mandalay. Great pool as you will undoubtedly bust out on your bank roll and will need entertainment that doesn't cost money.

I wouldn't consider places like The Flamingo mid range. I think those are more budget.

I thought the best bang for your buck place was Rio back when I was a regular Las Vegas attendee. The drawback is that it is just off the strip. Unfortunately just off the strip is like a mile walk in Las Vegas

Luxor ain't bad, and you're basically connected to Mandalay Bay.

It's also connected to Excalibur (a dump), and a walkway crossing to New York New York, MGM Grand, and Tropicana.

I was going to ask the same thing IMU did.

Going to Vegas the week end of the 25th. Thanks for all of the advice.

Damn, I'll be there the weekend previous to that.

We could have filmed the Hangover 4, you and I. The shenanigans that would have been had!

Ceasars was overall terrible with the notable exception of the girls at the pool. Rio was a little scuzzy last time I was there. Of those mentioned, I like Mandalay Bay the best.

What's your beef with Caesars? I almost always stay at Caesars or Bellagio, both higher end places in the middle of the Strip. If I'm going with my wife, I'll stay in a better room. If I'm out there alone or with some other goofs, one of the towers is plenty good. How often are you in the room anyway? When I got married the first time I was at Bellagio for two weeks. That was a bit much, even for me.

I worked in the hospitality industry.

If you just do the minimum service you get at least 20%.

No. A dollar, two tops. I read it in Ann Landers.

I agree that Mandalay is very nice but I disagree with your definition of mid-range. I'd rank them (strip only)...

High End: Bellagio, Wynn, Venetian, Aria, Caesars.
Upper-mid: Mandalay, Paris, Mirage
Mid-range: Monte Carlo, New York New York, MGM, Tropicana (now a Doubletree), Planet Hollywood, Flamingo, Treasure Island
Low-mid: Harrahs, Ballys, Luxor
Lower end: Circus Circus, Stratosphere, Excalibur, Riviera, Imperial Palace

I would strongly consider the importance of a central location if you plan on walking (as GD noted everything is much farther than it appears on a map). That boosts Harrahs & Paris for example and drops Mandalay & Luxor. If you've got kids then a pool may become a factor. Mandalay & MGM are awesome. Trop is nice as well.

Also as several have noted: If Downtown is a consideration then the Golden Nugget may offer the best of the bunch in terms of great pool (shark tank water slide), nice property, good value. Cheap gambling downtown & crazy people watching but restaurant selection is poor. Need a car for sure.

Gambling at IP is always a treat. It's like the Mos Eisley cantina in there.

They screwed up our room reservation and they really never made it right. I felt that we were treated like chumps while we were there, which was 3 or 4 days. The rest of the week we stayed at a Hilton on Lake Las Vegas, which was lovely. Kind of salvaged the week (we were there for a wedding anyway.)

When looking at prices I found the Ceasars was expensive for what they were offering. But I never stayed there so I can't comment more than that.

Zippy: don't forget my place Palazzo. That place is great.

You can take public transportation to go from one end of the strip to another if you don't mind a bus.
You can take a taxi for door to door. It's still cheaper than renting a car.
