Pretty much more of the same; although, I've always enjoyed Tolkein's middle earth yarns so this is just a continuation of something fun anyway. Some really entertaining sequences, especially in the river barrel Donkey Kong scene.

It's pretty cool but I can't really say much else; if you're not a fan of the series you can steer clear. This one plods along a bit...but it does set up for a pretty intense conclusion.

Peter Jackson should be ashamed. He stretches the shortest, easy reading book into 3 movies and condenses the actual trilogy into single films. Butchering storylines along the way. Fuck him, I still havent seen the first Hobbit yet.

should he have made a trilogy for each of the lord of the rings books? maybe he'll do that next. he'll reboot his own franchise and make them each a trilogy of themselves.

No, but he shouldnt have broken up the shortest book into 3 movies either. It didnt need 2 films, one movie can get you what you need with The Hobbit.

I would have been OK with breaking up the original trilogy into 4 or 5 movies. He knew he was filming all 3 and seeing as how he butchered large parts of it anyway why do you have to keep it at a book a movie. He was telling the entire trilogy story from beginning to end.

new line was scared to even have him release the 3 films originally. they took a huge gamble on that trilogy. i'm sure if he had his way he'd have made 6 movies with LOTR. if you watch all 3 movies in their extended edition versions, it'll take you nearly 10 hours to watch all of them. i think that's enough time spent in middle earth for one day.

he's admitted he sourced other material related to "the hobbit" to stretch this into a trilogy. there really isn't a shortage when it comes to middle earth. tolkein has tons of stuff to use.

the main point is that these two movies so far have been entertaining in their own right. it's still a hell of an achievement to bring middle earth to life the way he did in a plausible way. medieval fantasy films always looked horrible and were over the top cheesy. these films look good and are fun to watch.

at least they spread the release far enough apart that I remember absolutely nothing from the previous movie

Enjoyed it a bit more than the first Hobbit, but still not on the same level as any of the films in the original trilogy.

Personally, I didn't have any complaints about feeling like the story didn't have enough going on...of course, maybe that's because (GASP!!!) I didn't read the book.

My aunt (a HUGE fan of the series) said he could've did this. She couldn't get through the first Hobbit film (3 times). I tried to explain to her all the changes from the book (which I'm currently reading now) that went into that movie, because she has no interest in it.

But this one was way better. Less "talky/singy" more "adventurey". They could've condensed much of the first movie & combined it w/ the stuff from this one & made it a two-parter.

It's amazing, though, how for someone who is such a Tolkien fan, Jackson fucked the shit out of the storylines.

I thought I read that opposite of the first three they actually forced him to stretch the Hobbit into 3 to make the cash. IDK?

The LotR movies are all good. I enjoyed them but just got fanboy annoyed at this. If you didnt read the books I'm sure the movies seem much better.

When I see Arwen rescue Frodo from the Ringwraiths or a legion of troops from Lothlorien battling in Helm's Deep it annoys the piss out of me.

I find your take on the film to be shallow, podantic, and unconstitutional

sorry...

A nice movie ... a bit of an abrupt ending to be sure  ... I had seen some complain about the "cameos"; not really sure why ... no reason to say "don't see this" unless you despise the genre.

This was awful. Worse than the first movie. Giant Peter Jackson masturbation fest. I fell asleep watching this and spent most of the film doing work on my laptop. Martin Freeman is a good Bilbo. The dwarves are all lame. Smaug was cool. Despise elves with a passion so I hated Legolas popping up. Lame romance between dwarf and elf reminded me of Padme and Anakin's cringeworthy scenes in SW prequels.

Who the hell "despises" elves besides, maybe, the Ritz cracker company?

I downloaded this last week - will probably watch when I'm bored after my move and don't have Comcast hooked up yet.
