When looking at prices I found the Ceasars was expensive for what they were offering. But I never stayed there so I can't comment more than that.

Zippy: don't forget my place Palazzo. That place is great.

You can take public transportation to go from one end of the strip to another if you don't mind a bus.
You can take a taxi for door to door. It's still cheaper than renting a car.

I've done it both ways but rental cars are cheap in Vegas. The ability to check out off strip casinos and other attractions (such as Hoover Dam) make me lean toward a rental.

I agree it's a top of the line hotel but I don't remember it having much of a casino (other than adjoining the Venetian). I'm sure I missed a number of places...just rattled of the ones that popped to mind.

With regard to Caesars - it's like so many other spots in Vegas...it's all about timing. The rates can be all over the map for the same property depending upon what's going on. If you have travel flexibility you can definitely move up in class.

That's hard core. A long weekend in Las Vegas seems like a month. I'd probably sign over the deed to my house at the end of two weeks.

What's your beef with Caesars? I almost always stay at Caesars or Bellagio, both higher end places in the middle of the Strip. If I'm going with my wife, I'll stay in a better room. If I'm out there alone or with some other goofs, one of the towers is plenty good. How often are you in the room anyway? When I got married the first time I was at Bellagio for two weeks. That was a bit much, even for me.

They screwed up our room reservation and they really never made it right. I felt that we were treated like chumps while we were there, which was 3 or 4 days. The rest of the week we stayed at a Hilton on Lake Las Vegas, which was lovely. Kind of salvaged the week (we were there for a wedding anyway.)

That's too bad. I've never had a bad experience at Caesars. The last time I went was on my wife's birthday. When we were checking in, a young black guy from Chicago was taking care of us. He looked at my wife's ID and saw it was her birthday and that we were from Chicago too. He said, "I'm gonna hook up a Chicago girl on her birthday." He upgraded us to a suite that was just unbelievable. It was bigger than most apartments I've lived in. Totally deluxe. I can imagine there are certain times when this thing went for $5000 a night and we were paying $189 or something.

When I got married the first time out there we had about 28 people come out. My ex-mother-in-law had talked to some idiot friend of hers and insisted we have the dinner the night before the wedding out in Henderson. The restaurant was horrible and it took forever for everyone to get cabs back to the Strip. I was paying for the post-wedding dinner myself and I wanted to have it at Battista's. My mother-in-law grumbled about that. But it was great and she actually apologized and gave the check to her ex-husband.

The week leading up to the wedding was awesome. A bunch of my friends were there and we would meet every morning at the bar in the Bellagio sports book. I can remember thinking, "This would be one of the best times of my life if I weren't the guy getting married." That probably should have given me more pause than it did. But my first wife had the look and feel of a Vegas showgirl. That was something I put a high value on at one time in my life. No wonder the marriage only lasted six months.

Dinner at Battista's is quite a thing. You feel like you are on the set of a gangster movie. That cheap ass wine really takes care of business as well

Stayed at Flamingo last time we went but did not care for it. The bars were boring, the place seemed run down and it took forever to check in.

First choice for me is always MGM. There is plenty to do and the pools are great.

I have read several mentions of pools. The pools are not open this time of year. It's 46 degrees in Vegas as I type this.

Not sure when you stayed but I was there a summer ago or close to it and they were redoing some of the place. Still not a AAA joint but it's alright and the gambling is good. Affordable and it's in the middle of everything.

But yes, it takes FOREVER to check in.

Remember one thing when traveling and staying in low level joints. If it was real cheap for you,it was real cheap for shitkicker Sam & his family of Trolls. I like nicer places though I'm sure none of them pass the bluelight test. The Mirage is the nicer part of the strip. It's right by the Wynn & next to Treasure Island which is kind of for the younger crowd.

I'll have you know that the braces are coming off of the girl in the spring, and the other one, well that's what happens when you get the old noggin stuck in a birth canal like a Chinese finger trap for nine hours. Can't be helped.

Before you -- I believe it was August of 2011. They were redoing it then too -- just not our room. The carpet had some sort of stain -- either blood or vomit. The pool was too crowded and the bars were boring.

But it wasn't all bad. On Saturday of the trip we had lost $$ elsewhere on blackjack so we went back to the hotel and hung out in the sportsbook. It was kind of small and dumpy but we had really good service -- she kept the coronas coming. It was Arlington Million day so we wagered on those races and actually won a few.

It was ironic in a way that after traveling 1.500 miles, my only wins that trip came from wagering on a track that is 9 blocks from my house.

And you are right, the hotel's mid-strip location cannot be beat.

I ended up choosing Bally's. I preferred PH, but it was booked out by the time I booked my stuff. Procrastination 1, IMU 0. I also ended up having to spend like $100 more because of my delay.

My sister's family is staying at Vdara, and my uncle and his wife are staying at ... not sure yet. He goes to Vegas all the time and multiple casinos comp him.

Ballys is kind of lame and gross. I would reconsider this choice.

FYI, while some pools might be open, very few if any have heated pools, this is why they have rivers and huge pools, they dont need to heat it.

M Bay is the best call, because it has a variety of things to do and places to eat all on site. Its a huge property, great place. Even if you pay a little more, you really dont need to leave the place, as they have more enough to do on site.

PH isnt bad, also a huge place, but has a serious redneck vibe. No real good dining places, the buffet is the main thing. Bowling, etc.

May I suggest you call the Hard Rock, ask to speak to a Casino Host, say you stay at the ______ , but would like a rate he can provide you. You might very well get a free room or amazingly cheap. Unless you are going Jan 17,18 etc. Porn Award weekend!

Being centrally located was one of the most important factors for me. Mandalay Bay might as well be in Arizona.

No interest in the pools. And yeah...I am actually arriving on the 18th. :) Was not aware of the Porn Awards though, will need to change the itinerary to fit that in.

It is a porn convention. The awards show is Sat night, but wed to fri is a expo, not sure how much it is $25, you get to walk in. See about 100 exhibits and about 25 chicks who sign pics and take pics with you.

'being centrally located" in Vegas is a bit of an issue.

can you walk from Ceasars to Ballys? Yes, but I can take a cab faster from hard rock to ballys, and have time for a drink and a piss, but what do I know, I have only been there about 50 times.

He will probably end up staying at two or three different places. That's how my friends do it. They get comps all over the place.
