I know a guy that may be approaching that age in the next few years. It's pretty hard to buy a gift for men that age. Things they want are expensive, and usually their needs are low. I think organizing/sharing some type of social activity that you know they enjoy is probably a better route.

I'm not a wine guy, but I was gifted a "beer of the month" type of thing last year.

I got 12 beers every month, 3x4 different kinds. It was good in the sense that I got to try different beers, but it usually included 2 types of beer I didn't like and they essentially went to waste or I gave them away. Not sure if the wine thing works the same way.
