This is something I have never understood in the radio business. They let their biggest stars vacation at the time the greatest number of people are listening.

right, they should take off the slow times....like in February when football is over, baseball hasn't started and basketball/hockey playoffs haven't started

You think this is actually the most listened to time of the year? I disagree.

Many people are off right now. Those drive-time shift audiences are probably nearly cut in half right now.

I haven't turned a radio on inside my house since the 1990's.

Thats when you think you are big time and negotiate a contract and your agent negotiates the days off, even if you didnt ask.

I do agree though and if I was such a host, I would do a few holiday shifts, I think it might be the biggest chance to actually get new listeners.

If I were managing a station I would mandate vacation time be taken a week after the Monday after the super bowl until the beginning of college bb tournaments.

This is why the last two weeks or so of each year are not even rated.

I think this is true. Many people are off work between the Holidays and lots of radio listeners are listening from work. I know I have the radio on at work all day. When I take days off around the Holidays, I might not have the radio on at all. I didn't today.

Not at all, but I think that's a pretty important day for your frontline guys to be on the radio. It would be like the lead florist taking off the week before Mother's Day.

No way he takes off if the Cubs win

How did that happen? Was it Thanksgiving holidays or something? Seems rather dumb otherwise. I listen on and off, but for me 670 is appointment radio during and right after a major development. A world series win obviously qualifies.
