Posts like this prove my point even more. Winning the bowl game you play in means nothing. I'm sure you will point out that Grossman wasn't the reason they won.

Drew Tate won the Capital One Bowl in 2005 with an amazing Hail Mary pass. He's playing in the CFL. A bowl game means nothing.

But if I am following your logic.....
Brian Griese won the Rose Bowl in 1997 and led Michigan to a share of the National Championship. I guess he should be the starter!

The Bears have two national champion QBs on their roster with Griese and Leak. They won their bowl game and yes, won the national title.

What is kind of funny about this discussion is the fact that in last year's Super Bowl, Rex Grossman's interception in the 4th quarter was the nail in the coffin for the Bears. The game was very much up for grabs until then.

I'm not saying Rex Grossman lost the Super Bowl for the Bears, but if he was such a winner of championships, that wouldn't have happened.

So you can win a Bowl game you don't play in? Was the BCS around when Griese was a Michigan(Not taking anything away from him)?

No it wasn't, but he still has a national championship ring. Grossman might have some trinket from the Orange Bowl. Chris Leak has one(national champ ring) too.

He won 6 championships in the NBA, and one in college. I think Rex should win one before you say he has won championships.

That game is the reason the BCS was formed(or at least one of the major reasons). The Rose Bowl traditionally had the Big Ten and Pac-10 champion so you could have the #1 team in the country not playing in the national championship game. The BCS ended that relationship in the case that a PAC-10 or Big Ten team is #1 or #2.

Not the same thing. The Orange Bowl is a major Bowl. It's not like I said he won the Hawkeye Vince Bowl or something. He won a major Bowl in college

When your blind love for all things Rex ends, I'll rejoin the discussion.

Honestly, don't hate the guy but I do hate the seemingly blind affection for players with obvious deficiencies when they are pointed out. He's had some good games and not so good games. Is he the best chance to win a title? Most likely based on the current roster. Is he the best QB in the league? No.

Back so soon? I've pointed out his flaws many times and I never said he was the best quarterback in the league. For some reason if I don't pile on like the rest of you guys I have blind love for Rex. I believe he gives the Bears the best chance to win and he has potential to be special. I'm a Bears fan first and foremost. If Henry Burris was the quarterback I would hope he does well. If seen Rex perform at a high level very few quarterbacks in the league can perform at. I've also seen him perform at a level that some HS quarterbacks wouldn't perform at.

Couldn'tlet the Rex lover get the last word ;-) I'm feelin ya

He won his last game of the year in HS and in college. Does that help? Even if he does win a SB he won't get credit for it. I really don't believe some of you are Bears fans. Rex has been a winner since HS and has won numerous awards.

Half of all bowl teams win their last game every year. You said that Rex has won championships at every level and that is false. He didn't win one in college. This is a fact. There are two polls that decide the championship and Florida didn't get first in either one. Rex did not win the Super Bowl last year.

If it makes me not a Bears fan to not recognize a win in the Orange Bowl as a championship then I guess I'm not. If it makes me not a Bears fan to not say that Grossman won the Super Bowl last year then I guess I'm not. I am a Bears fan and I hope that Rex does well and wins a title, but I can analyze him. I see a QB that is physically able to be a good QB but mentally still has the same problems he had last year. I'm trying to withhold comment until I see the same problems from last year show up this year but I couldn't sit there while you talked about how Grossman is a champion at every division.

How has he been doing this throughout his career? Before he got his ankle broke he was a mobile quarterback that had the ability to make people miss. I still remember how bad he made Zach Thomas look. The snap thing just became a problem. I don't recall many of them being recovered by the other team.

Yeah, but see, taking a snap is a pretty important thing for an NFL QB. I dont care how silly he made Zack Thomas look, if he cant take a snap, he should not be out there. Maybe Rex has that disorder that Steve Sax and Chuck Knonblach had.

What is this based off of? The guy wants to win. He came back from terrible knee and ankle injuries and the guys believe in him. Mainly Kruetz.

He has won championships at every level. That's the reason why your Packer team wanted him based on how he performed in pressure situations. With the Bears he has been hit or miss but he hasn't really had many of these so called pressure situations.

Championships at every level....hmmm. Now I do not have the Indiana State Football tournament history comitted to memory. But, I think the last time the Florida Gators won the national title before last year was in 1996 and Rex was in high school then. Sure may have won an SEC title, but that is not a championship. It is a CONFERENCE championship. He seems to be able to do that. Rex's performance in last year's Super Bowl was terrible. You cant argue that. In fact, other than Neil O'Donnell, I cant remember a Super Bowl QB having a worse game in recent years (in a close game, I know that Eason, Reich, Kelly, and Stan Humphries were probably worse). I am not saying the Greise should be in week one. But, if Rex pees down his leg more than once or twice, they have to make the change. This is the year they have to win. It is there for the taking and you cant let your quarterback cost you the Super Bowl two years in a row. That is unacceptable.

They should find Gino Terrota, Tommy Frazier, and Tony Rice. Also, Steve Walsh did good when he was a Bear.

Carson Palmer, without even hesitating. I'd rather have Carson Palmer next year, and I'd rather have Carson Palmer for the duration of his career. But Rex has the gunslinger/turnoversaurus label, and Palmer doesn't. Some of that is justified- Palmer also threw for more TDs- and some of it is not. It's just funny how labels get applied; I was surprised when I read the stats about Palmer.

Grossman finally gets his due. Peter King ranks him as the 166th best player in the NFL - all positions.

that Peter King rank list was about the worst I have ver seen. The one that stuck out the most to me was Nick Barnett at 324! This is stupid.

my top 5 RBs:

Brown, Jim
Faulk, Marshall
Payton, Walter
Sanders, Barry
Tomlinson, LaDainian

If anyone suggests Emmitt Smith, I'm sending Ted Nugent to your house to straighten you out.

Tomlinson needs to do it for a couple more years before he gets to number 1. He may very well be on his way but we aren't too far removed from Priest Holmes being the best running back in the NFL. His 2006 season was amazing but before that it was debatable whether or not he was the best RB in the league.
In 2005, Larry Johnson put up better numbers.
In 2004, I can't currently come up with someone who had better numbers.
In 2003 and 2004, Priest Holmes put up better numbers.

I think LT takes the crown of this decades best RB with another great season this year, but he hasn't gotten to the all time greats just yet.

Nas, my list was alphabetical. Did that on purpose because I didn't want to argue about positioning. It was just a top 5. Faulk would be #5, though.

Agreed. Just because the guy set the TD record last season does not make him the best running back in the league's history. He just had the best season in league history.

It's hard to compare numbers for RBs across eras. I think there are a lot more 1000 yard rushers today than there were when Jim Brown, Walter, or even Barry Sanders were in their primes. That tells me that rushing yards are a little easer to come by...
