It is good that Bruce Levine is on this morning on the Score. If for nothing else he has Chairman Reinsdorf on. If I recall he wouldn't talk to anyone else on the Score?

I just turned it on and didn't know what the hell I was listening to. Did the know they were having Riensdorf on this morning? They didn't seem very prepared with their questions as it was a very awkward interview.

Holy Shit, Mike. Did you hear that slurpfest by Levine? That is the baseball version of Holmes/Tillman. Nice of Levine to drop in the fact that the Chairman is a "very good friend" of his. Which pretty much shoots down any Sox commentary credibility Bruce brings to the table.

"I really hope you stick around a long, long time, Jerry" Wow.

I think I've heard one or two Levine reports and I wasn't really impressed. This pretty much confirmed what I thought.

Also a nice touch by Bruce to breathe into the phone during the show. That's a good listen.

Yeah it wasn't great and is a love fest. I like to hear him though so you can get an inkling somewhere in what Jerry says. Like he had breakfast with AJ this week and thinks he will be a great broadcaster. You have to listen and dig for your Jerry info truffles.

I have always enjoyed talking baseball with Bruce Levine. He is knowledgeable, has LOTS of great contacts in the game who are willing to do interviews with him and most of all-he loves the game. That fact comes through as clear as day. Sure, sometimes he tries too hard to cover for the GM's and Managers, rather than roasting them when many might think they deserve it. but that's one good reason why he retains so many good contacts. Bruce gives me another show on WSCR to listen to, besides Dan McNeil's. ESPN made a bad mistake letting him go. During the Baseball season they will now rely on Jesse Rodgers for their Baseball updates and that is a significant step down in my opinion.

I agree. I don't know why so many guys here dislike Bruce. He's a workhorse. And true, he isn't just going to go after anyone, but he also isn't afraid to ask a tough question. If you listen to any Chicago baseball presser, Bruce asks more questions than anyone and the other dopes let him do the work. He was the guy who told Ed Lynch he wouldn't have a job without the media, which was undoubtedly true at that time.

Who else refers to the Sox owner as "Mr. Reinsdorf."

They should call him "Mr. Rat Bastard who kept Cuban from the Cubs" but I guess that takes too long.

What were the Cubs going to do with the Cuban? They're already set at first for the next ten years with Rizzo.

Bruce is an example of a guy who got too close and now just blows veteran players, owners and managers.

Best guy in town is\was Sullivan. For years he has talked cubs and he doesnt hold back.

I just cant wait to see if Gonzo protects the Cubs like he did the Sox?

That's a fine line when you're in business for the long haul. It's easy for a guy like bernstein to sit in a studio and rip on the beat reporters for tossing softballs when he isn't relying on their info for his livelihood. I don't remember him being so tough when he was reporting.

The flipside is that Bruce does have a lot of contacts and he gets stuff before other guys all the time. It's tough to work a beat for a long time and really be honest and unmerciful. The best beat reporter in town is Brad Biggs who has managed to find a balance.

A lot. I was sorry when the Sox left WMVP. Nothing related to their presence on the radio has been as good since. Levine is one of the biggest things I've missed since I didn't listen to ESPN nearly as often after the Sox went to WSCR. I like Bruce and I always have.

I don't see how people openly acknowledge that he isn't going to give you any negative viewpoints yet do not question his credibility. If Jesse Rogers is the standard for the competition, obviously I will live with Bruce. I think we should expect better.

The man worked for the Cubs though Vineline while covering the Cubs without disclosing the obvious conflict of interest before every Cub report, which I believe would be dictated be industry ethics. He really lost me the day of his weepy goodbye to Dusty. Also, the guy is an irascible tool.

I think ethics went out the window when the teams began buying interests in the outlets that cover them.

What is his stance on sabermetrics? Does he ignore/embrace them?

He got replaced with Murph which is fine by me. I do listen to Levine & respect his knowledge.

I don't know. I've never heard him get adamant one way or the other. He's more of a rumor and innuendo type guy like Sam Smith.

A crowbar was needed to pry Levine's lips from Dusty's arse.
