This is the kind of money that gets paid when a team hasn't sniffed a good QB in decades. This is a guy who our GM has deemed worthy of a massive payday....after watching a QB with much less natural ability run the same offense in a more efficient manner. A guy, who will be 31 at the start of next season....not 24, 25, 28,...but 31 who they are counting on to suddenly blossom into a leader of men and to keep improving. This was an unnecessary expenditure given the type of offense being run. Stupid, stupid deal.

He better be absolutely lights out from here on out. The bullseye is now squarely on Jay.

And he has failed to shed it, time and time again.

Not from the front office obviously.

Correction, the bull's eye has been on Jay since he threw his first INT and made a funny face about it.

Yep.....when you're traded for 2 1st rounders, that's what happens. Now it's going to be ratcheted up even more.

Is there a list of other QB's you'd like to overpay that are available right now?

Vick and McCown are literally the best two options available in free agency.

.....aaaand thread.

Except that's wrong. Many of us believed an average QB would have been the best option if you had to pay Cutler $18M a year. The savings could have been invested in the defense. Why? Because the gap between Cutler and average is small. McCown proved that a below average QB could be successful with this talent. In fact he was better than Cutler.

Cutler got a Super Bowl champion QB deal...except he hasn't won the Super Bowl yet. It is beyond me how the Bears justify giving Cutler a bigger contract than the Packers gave to A-Rod. The Bears should still draft a QB. Aaron Murray has dropped & should be available in the 3rd or 4th round. Matt Miller at Bleacher Report has the Bears drafting QB Brett Smith from Wyoming in the 3rd.

I would say after he singlehandedly lost 4 games his first year and for me it was the 2012 season.

You expect the Bears to justify something that they didn't do?

That's the thing I can't understand. Emery and Trestman are supposedly intelligent forward thinking football guys. It played out right in front of their eyes.

They are in love with Cutlers "tools". Kind of like that guy that lives with A Rodgers.

Yes & no. Cutlers deal is $126 Million. Rodgers deal is $110 Million. Jays deal is for 7 years while Rodgers is for 5. The Bears threw stupid money at Jay. No way will he finish this contract. Flacco, Ryan, Romo, Stafford, & Cutler all have $100+ Million deals. NFL owners are dumber than I thought. Wow.

Frank is the #2 offender of acting like others just "hate Jay Cutler" while simultaneously being his press secretary.

I'm surprised he hasn't blamed the Bears defense for this signing yet.

you realize a longer contract does not make it a bigger contract.

Come on man, you are reaching here.

So, someone on reddit posted hypothetical terms to the deal: http://imgur.com/nDBvfCF

If that's the case, you're looking at a $12M cap hit this year. That makes the contract make much more sense. Still, by doing that, you're taking a $11M cap hit 5 years out. Which.. ugh.

If the cap hit is really significantly less than the franchise tag but for for 3 years...then this is a great deal in my opinion

Not released yet but I think the guesses are based on theb3 years of guarenteed money and the 7 yr deal. They're probably in the ballpark

I didn't even consider Cutler at a reasonable price a possibility

Do you think he would have gotten this type of deal on the free market?
