You are right, I brought up his 19/12 ratio for this season initially. You then chose to compare those stats to Ryan and Stafford's stats for this past seasom, when each had poor seasons. I brought up the career numbers to show that each has superior seasons to those Jay has ever had. I'll take a Brett favre -like career that includes a 20/29 Td/INT ratio in one season, if it also has season where it's 33/7, 36/16, 39/13, 38/13 and 33/14 and 9 seasons of 30 or more TD's. Jay doesn't have exceptional seasons great/awful. He has varrying degrees of mediocrity.

Wouldn't it be better to be able to find a Russell Wilson every few years and plug him into a great system and be able to spend the massive QB money elsewhere?

Any examples of average QB's becoming great after 8 years?

I assumed that since I was accepting on behalf of robert chief and Chris' buddy the lot attendant that maybe I wasn't 100% serious.

Everyone knows the Bears had a lot of cap space going into the offseason. But they also have a lot of holes and likely need to fork over some cash in free agency to be competitive next year. So when Emery decided to front load these to contracts to the tune of $30 million it raised a few eyebrows. But I think Emery knows what he is doing.

For one, the Bears signed 2 big free agents last year, Bushrod and Bennett, for the tune of 9 years and $55 million. But they only counted a total of $5 million against the cap this year. So the Emery could do the same thing this year and backload contracts on another pair of impact free agents.

But why frontload the resignings only to backload the free agents? For one it gives you flexibility in free agency. If you can't land a free agent you wanted, you are not stuck with money to burn. Instead you are set up better for next year.

Two maybe looking long term, Emery didn't like the salary cap forecast after backloading two deals last year. Maybe he is lessening the pressure of that by frontloading these deals.

Three, maybe it is a negotiating tactic for lower level free agents. Chicago is an attractive place for lots of free agents. By having huge amounts of cap room, maybe players are inclined to hold out for more. I could see veteran players accepting deals like Williams, Slauson, and Anderson did last year because they think Chicago is the best place for them to succeed, and if they can only afford a minimum contract so be it.
