In the spirit of Beardown's recent "Trade Marshall" thread where he (hopes to) invoke/s the wrath of the CSFMB for making some of that crazytalk, I was just having a text convo with my friend about the Bulls about the definition of "NBA Hell" and thus why they need to tank this year in order to have a chance to make the lottery and potentially get another rigged pick in the ~top5 to get a bonafide franchise changing player, you know, just like it went down in 2007-08.

So that gets me to thinking.... is it possible that firing Skiles and thus missing the 2008 playoffs to get a D-Rose brand band-aid to cover up the fundamental problems with the Deng/Noah/Hinrich/etc "Try Hard" ultimately set this franchise back 10-15 years in terms of them believing that they didn't have to change the fundamental composition of the team because they got Derrick to take them to the promised land?

If the try-hard grinders on this team follow Thibs' hellbent desire to make the playoffs at all costs and therefore they miss this golden opportunity to get a nice lottery pick, you're looking at a situation where short of the Bobcats being horrible until 2016 and getting a top-pick, you're going to be in a ~5/+ year situation where you're good enough to be the #4-8 seed but not bad enough to get a franchise-changing lottery pick, so unless Lebron decides to sign here as a FA you're pretty much done.

So yeah, what do you think.... would the Bulls be better off right now going forward if they never got Derrick Rose? I don't mean to slight Derrick at all, cuz if there's one thing he's got it's heart and I believe that he'll do everything in his power to get back ASAP and max out his game.... but is it possible that getting Derrick gave GarPax an unwarranted sense of bravado that validated their crappy Try-Hard-Bulls core for the long term? I mean, aside from the cocktease that was the MVP/#1-seed/2010-11 season this team has been on a pretty consistent downward spiral through the very definition of "NBA Hell" and if/when Derrick comes back and is able to stay healthy for most of the upcoming seasons, there's no way they don't make the playoffs in the shitty east..... meaning that there's no hope short of Lebron joining the Bulls.

So yeah, TL;DR.... is it better to have loved/contended and to have lost, or is it better to have not have loved/contended at all and thus start the process of finding a new love/contender that much sooner?

Or is this really about how Garpax are some fucking idiots because getting Derrick deluded them into thinking that their shit didn't stink when really they could/should have been proactive after the 2010-11 season and at least tried to swing some moves to get a team out there that didn't require Derrick to play so hard that he literally destroyed his body trying to singlehandedly carry the Bulls to the promised land?

If you'll excuse me, I gotta get my hat and coat on the way outside to shovel.....thank god we're getting some more much-needed snow, eh?

You nailed it.....Garpax are fucking idiots. Pax has always thought that "try hard" guys was the way to go. Not gonna happen. "Superstars" win titles. Another great one....can't break up the core. Paxson is another guy who should thank God he works for Mr. Loyalty, the Chairman. I highly doubt Forman wil ever be hired again as an NBA GM. The ability by the Cubs, Bulls and Bears to target guys for jobs they should never have gotten is amazing.

Real hell would have been not firing Skiles, finishing 39-43, drafting 12th, and taking Brandon Rush.

It would have been better if missing the 07-08 playoffs had led the Bulls to get sold and leave town.

No. The Bulls strategy has NOT been the problem. Rose health has set the franchise back and possibly cost them a championship.

If you have a roster full of try hard guys with Derrick Rose, you are fucked. Unless I missed those Championship parades.

Another 2 superstars, since Rose will no longer be one.

Let me know when the Bulls sign that 1st stud free agent.

Those guys would have had a great shot at winning the championship the last 2 years IF they had Rose.

Yeah I never saw that happening. Even if they would've beat ( with a healthy Rose of course) Miami, SA would've killed them

No way. Spurs matched up well with Heat. Not so with Bulls having bigs. I mean Spurs may have won but not killed em

the max contract to boozer was killer.... he's worthless offensively if he is going up against a decent player with size and obviously carlos gives 5% effort on defense if that.... so they gave a max deal to a 4 who cant score for you when it matters.... if they could have paired Rose with a better big things may have been different.

honorable mention to the aldridge for thomas trade setting the team back as well :)
