That seemed pretty good to me. Then again, I'm one of the crazy people that isn't surprised when a sequel is similar to the original.

The worst part will be how people complain it is just like the original, the original was better, and the original was overrated.

This is, like its predecessor, a movie that's better to talk about and quote out after the fact rather than it is to watch.

As an aside, I very much enjoy the Dodge spots he's doing.

not watching it. Hate watching trailers, basically makes me just want to wait for the movie to come to cable.

if I was a Hollywood studio, all I would make are special effects movie or something where I can sell the shit out of the merchandising. There is a reason Star Wars is the epic franchise of all time. Star Trek, even transformers now.

Of course, I may have underestimated how much Sex Panther I could sell! 'Made with bits of real panther!"

agreed. First one was good, and it grew on me after I watched it a few times.

It seems that most "comedies" as of late try too hard to be cool. I don't know. Maybe I'm just too old to get the coolness of the new gen comedies. Like someone said, these movies are more "quotable" than "funny"...

I laughed hard a few times at the first Anchorman. After it was over,I thought it was more offbeat than funny. I guess you have to see it a few times which I haven't.

Seeing this tonight. It's half price Tuesdays, so at least it's only $10 for the two of us. Going in with very low expectations.

That would be my approach as well but I've actually read a few pretty good reviews of it.

The wife and I are planning to go see it sometime after Christmas. Hopefully, some of the buzz will have died down, and the theater won't be so crowded. The last time we went to the movies, was to see The Hangover, in June of 2009.

Is it because of your work schedules? It's hard to co-ordinate spending time with my wife lately. We do try to catch a movie here & there.

I thought it was hilarious. Dare I say, even better than the first one. I could have done without the lighthouse scenes. The fight scene is predictably over the top, but still worked well. Tons of cameos too.

The daughter was able to see an advanced screening, and says it's much better than the first, in that the movie seems to flow a bit better and is more funny without just being a collection of soundbites like the first one was (FWIW, as much as I like dumb comedies, I couldn't even last more than 20 minutes into the first one).

I'm with you. I found Anchorman to be a decent comedy. I thought The Hangover was pretty funny, but vastly overrated. Hangover 2 was crap with a few funny scenes. And Hangover 3 may be one of the worst movies I've had the displeasure of watching. I don't know if it's the generation gap or what, but I find most of these new comedies meh. FWIW, I think the best comedies I've seen in the last 10 years are Superbad, Step Brothers, and Horrible Bosses. I was all excited to see This Is The End based on the reviews, and I walked away thinking, "is that it?"

Will Farrell is in Vince Vaughn territory for me.

You can take that shit back to the Midwest, buddy.

There were a lot of pacing problems I had with this movie...i think some of it was efforting too much "improv" scenes and the story was aggressively non existent. I get that, but if you're going to stretch this to 2 hours, it had better be a laugh factory and it kinda wasn't. There were some great lines ("bats are the chicken of the cave") but what i was disappointed with was that there were some avenues that the film skipped over instead of using them for a good source of comedy.

Mainly, Mack Tannen was a bit of a waste. There could've been some really good funny scenes between him and Burgundy. Also, a potential ongoing rivalry between Linda and Veronica.

The shark bit and the over the top kid stuff was funny, and the standard "Anchorman" stuff was all good. But it missed some golden opportunities to shine brighter than the original. I absolutely had no use for the Brick love story. And I like Kristen Wiig. But it just literally was like Adam McKay just said "Action!" and they just went off...on an off day. Nothing they said was all that funny. "Let's just be weird and it'll work" seemed to be the idea they shared.

So...yeah...almost there. But not quite. "Anchorman" remains a legendary comedy...this remains a sequel of it.

:D :D out of :D :D :D :D

My son wanted to see it. It met my low expectations. Not nearly enough laughs and every joke was stretched far too long. Kelly Bundy is looking haggard.

Not that funny. A few decent laughs but nothing outstanding. I was unimpressed the first time I watched the original and then grew to love it but I don't think this one will have that kind of impact. There was a little too much going back to the well and just changing a few details on the jokes from the original. I expect some of that but a little too much here. They'd get a couple lines into it and you'd realize "oh, this is the new Sex Panther bit" or "they're using a shark here instead of a bear", etc.

What did work, surprisingly, was the commentary on what the news has become. That was the freshest and most original material in the movie by far and I didn't really see that coming. I understand why some might say this movie "worked" more than the first because there was that theme to hold the movie together more than the man vs. woman theme of the first.

But, the first one was far funnier IMO.

Watched this over the weekend. It was okay. It was sloppily edited. Scenes kind of jumped abruptly from one to the next. The kid was pointless and dumb.

I agree completely here. But comedy is hard to critique since it defies the one size fits all rubric more than other genres, or at least as much as any other genre. In that regard, I found myself appreciating the humor in Anchorman 2 that I tend to seek out elsewhere (parody, for example), and being underwhelmed with most everything else.

A little late for your review of Blues Brothers 2000.
