They are always stressing safety first at our job so I decided to take them up on it and stay home when its 15 below out because thats the safe thing to do. Seeing as about 30% of our daily workforce decided to do the same, I wonder if anyone who showed up was sent home for being late today

At work. Not much going on though, will probably end up sending people home after lunch. Right now I'm having a cup of tea.

It's that bad in Rockford? I'll have to ask my pops. He works at Chrysler, and they don't close for nothing.

finally got to work about 2.5 hours late, thanks to my own general incompetence and Metra delays.

I'm not in a management position. But during the times my company has sent me home, my manager usually pays me for the whole day. I think there was one time where if you left early, they'd take it out of your vacation time.

Salaried people get paid full day. Hourly people only get paid if they are on the clock. Its voluntary to leave early at first, but we'll probably shut down a couple hours early today.

Cold weather science experiment update:

The boiling water trick worked once out of five times. it was cool when it worked, but the low success rate killed the mood of the audience.

HOWEVA......

For those of you with young kids - I strongly suggest going outside and blowing bubbles, it's pretty cool. They stay frozen and roll around all over the place. Add food coloring for better viewing.

You're welcome.

Take a small cup of intensely hot/boiling water, throw it high in the air. It "sizzles" and instantly freezes into almost a snow-like state.

Again, the one time it worked, it was cool. The other times I was standing in my back yard in arctic air and throwing water on myself.

I am at work. Everyone made it in (there are only four of us at this office), except for one person who asked if it was OK if she worked from home today. She frequently stays late without being asked, is always here, etc., so it was fine with me.
