Peter Gent and Rob Huizenga are two authors that Mac has quoted extensively on air, and prior to his friends being messed over. Gent was a former NFL player who wrote about his NFL experiences to write fiction well enough that went on to be a movie (North Dallas Forty), Huizenga wrote a book Youre Okay, It's just a bruise and was a guest of his show. Between the two of them, and knowing the NFL, little about the Bears is beyond the NFL's SOP for how players (labor) are managed.

Aside from the aspect of the team chiming in to have him fired (why he wouldn't/couldn't say "I'm sorry" is still head scratching) the rest of this is the kind of stuff that while unpleasant (on a personal level) is nothing new except for the people involved. If there is a model NFL franchise I would tune in for a solid 20 hours of listening to hear their comparative virtues and lack of questionable history.

No Mac, you don't have to have a love affair with the Bears (or any local team) to do what you do, but you can't be at the forefront of forming fan opinion and still be credible when you question those same fans for their judgments, past and present. Or their allegiances. Tossing out ratings books, bonuses, or how much it takes to make you roll out of bed only undermines your arguments. In any context. Bigger asses have made more.

Got a question, Mac...

If you're not a Bears fan, why do you still speak like one on-air? At best that's pretty disingenuous, right?

example: Talking to Rivera just now saying "can WE get Greg Hardy over here?" If you're not a Bears fan, why would you give a shit if they improved the team or not?

Is that a fact? I always hear people on this board talk about how they cant wait to hear Doug and OB or Bernsie or whoever after a big Bears loss. I rarely hear sentiment after a big Bears win(cant actually remember the last big Bears win, but I digress)

Yes.

Maybe not immediately after the game like that but overall, good teams are gonna get more listeners.

Posters on this board are sports-talk radio sharps vs the public's pov.

This is pretty facile. Obviously your first preference is for the the team to win, but failing that, you'd like to hear Doug and OB lose their shit because Doug and OB losing their shit is really funny.

It gets confusing when trying to figure when it is good for your team to win and when it is good for your team to lose.

For instance, it's great when my Bulls and Cubs lose, but it sucks when my Sox and Bears lose, but then it's good for my Sox and Bears to lose.

At least it's easy with the Hawks. I don't care if they win or lose, until they win a title, and then it's the greatest sports memory of the year.

Exactly. I just have to root for Indiana to lose.

Did you get your year end gift to the Purdue club sent in so they can continue to pay Painter?

Their last big win was two weeks before GB's last big win.

Week 17 was the Packers last big win so I guess you're saying that Browns game was a big one. Ok.

Oh, I didnt know you were counting reg season games like that.

I was referring to the Super Bowl.

You have low standards for big wins

Win or go home for the year game, basically a playoff game. I consider that a big win. Maybe I do have low standards. But by your standards the Bears last big win was not in 2010, but 28 years ago.

Nah, playoff wins are big. ACTUAL playoff games.

We both know you would have called it a big win if the Bears won. And you would have been correct because it was a big game. Everyone knows it. Not sure what the point of pretending otherwise is.

First off, No I wouldnt.

Secondly, you're the one defining Big Wins and doling them out. I dont really classify wins or worry about when other team's last big win was.
