Season 2 is one of the great seasons in TV history.

Season 2 had the marijuana matriarch with the apple pie? The last season I watched completely through.

I do like how all the other women on a show set in bumblefuck appalachia are dressed-down victoria's secret models.

I think seasons 2-4 are all pretty remarkable. Last season's meditation on the possibility of "legitimate" forms of upward class mobility was an amazing assessment of contemporary American society.

This. If I have another Boy, his name will be Raylon.

Raylan? You've got to be kidding me, Cue Ball. Boyd Crowder is both the central hero and anti-hero of that show.

Whatever 3 minute retrospective they did to begin changed the guide schedule and screwed up my DVR recording so now I have to wait until tomorrow since it only recorded 19 minutes.

I'm pissed.

Pretty decent start, heavy body count to start the season.

You liked Remy?

Are you referncing the Rappaport character? I was happy to see him working as I think he might make a pretty decent villian in this series, didn't get too wrapped up in the accent. Also liked David Koechner and Dave Foley
in there as one of the Canadians.

From a recent interview with one of the executive producers.... I'm going to give it a few episodes before
passing judgement. He wasn't in many scenes this first episode.

When I talked to Michael Rapaport about how the role of Darryl Crowe Jr. came to him, he said you guys offered it to him but wanted to make sure the New Yorker could do the Southern accent. He sent you a clip from a tiny indie movie he’d done (2004′s America Brown) and then recorded a monologue he’d made up on his phone. What do you remember about it?

It just felt pretty Elmore-ish and it seemed fitting. We knew he could do it, it was just making sure that we all rested easy.

It’s in episode 3 that we’ll really start seeing the fun contradictions in Darryl Crowe. Tim told me he thinks Michael will steal the season.

It’s just every scene he’s in, it’s really dynamic. I just got off the phone with him this [Jan. 6] morning — he had some questions about a scene in the episode we’re shooting now, which is 508 — and he just completely unprompted said, “You gotta know that having Tim and Walton on the set is such a joy. That these guys extend the hand of friendship and support, and they really want everyone to shine.” A big part of that is you get someone like Rapaport, and he’s naturally gonna shine. But supported by everyone else, he’s given that encouragement to really have fun with it. I knew that Tim and Walton’s reputation was that, but it’s always nice to hear it.

I agree, Rappaport's accent is completely awful. Initially, i thought he was doing it kind of mockingly to play the dumb hick for Raylan but then he kept going with it... horrible.
But the show was solid. I'm looking forward to seeing how all the stories unfold and intertwine.

I enjoy how this show grabs every comedian it can to be on it. I can't wait for Carrot Top to appear.

My favorite line, I have been to Iraq. It's a lot like Detroit, except Detroit has better music.

I enjoyed Boyd's little speech about their man shooting him and that's why he's here eating a shitty donut talking to you.

I didn't even recognize Dave Foley.

I enjoyed the episode. Good start.

Per Sepinwall, they're ending it a year early...

Quote:
It's FX's day at the Television Critics Association press tour, which, as always, brings with it a load of news about new shows (Louis C.K. and Zach Galifianakis are developing a comedy for Galifianakis to star in), new deals (the FX Now streaming app is finally ready to launch, if your cable system cuts a deal with FX), and on returning shows. On the latter case, the biggest news was official confirmation that "Justified" will end after next season, the show's sixth. (The second episode of the fifth season airs tonight at 10; I'll have a review up later, but it's a good one.)

In the middle of his executive press conference (Fienberg has all the details on it in his live-blog), FX president John Landgraf called "Justified" one of his favorite shows, and would have gladly kept the show around for several more seasons. Instead, creator Graham Yost and star Timothy Olyphant said they felt the story was winding down.

"We talked about it a year ago and they felt that the arc of the show, and what they had to say, would be best served by six seasons instead of seven," Landgraf said, "so regretfully I accepted their decision."

Yost, Olyphant and the rest of the "Justified" gang will also be here for a panel, and I imagine they will have a lot more to say about the decision then. But I'm fine with it. "Justified" is one of the best shows on TV, but for the most part, TV shows shouldn't run forever, and too many shows in this golden age suffered from sticking around past their creative expiration date. If Yost and Olyphant think they've only got one more year of good stories after this one (just as Terence Winter apparently felt about "Boardwalk Empire," which will end after its next season), I trust them.

What does everybody else think? Sad our time in Harlan is running out, or do you agree we'd be risking diminishing returns if it ran much longer?

I like that good shows are not staying on too long, but I think HArlen county could be like the wire in baltimore n keep introducing new characters ...raylan can go n do movies n the show could still be very good.

Just kinda a so-so episode last night. Sets up his relationship with this seasons piece of ass. I liked
his discussion with the pot dealer and how he basically said he would blow away four guys before they
could draw on him and would take his chances with the other two. Not sure exactly what role this
undertakers wife is going to play in things.

It was nice to see Avon Barksdale getting some work. I think the whole episode was written around the speech Raylan gives to the Memphis guys about shooting four of them before they get their guns out.

Kinda underwhelmed by this season thus far. The last episode was pretty forgettable. Doesn't help that
I found True Detective and have shifted a lot of interest to that. Still have hope things will pick up.
