Yes, thank you, I addressed the Canada thing one post above yours.

Wait a second. There are more hockey teams than NBA teams up in Big Scotland with Polar Bears!!

In the US the leagues are about the same in terms of sellouts. The only difference is that the NHL is more popular in Canada.

And Detroit, and Philadelphia, and the Twin Cities, and apparently now Chicago if the local ratings are any indicator.

Yeah ... 10 is still more than 8.

Maybe next you can hedge the numbers by limiting it to arenas in Florida only.

I saw an article on this very subject. I assume it's what inspired this thread. It detailed how the NHL is in fact, selling out more games this season than the NBA. It's easy to understand. It's a more exciting game, played by men who give greater effort game in and game out. Plus, the players are easier for the average fan to relate to (they are more down to earth and grounded) . Unfortunately, as great a game as it is to watch in an arena, it doesn't translate well to television. Otherwise, it might be even bigger. But it's popularity is definitely on the rise.

Or, you know, you could have looked at the first post in this thread. I guess that is beyond your intelligence though.

The hockey players are certainly shorter than NBA players.

There is fighting in hockey and body checks. If you do that in the NBA you're out of the game and suspended.

The NBA players often seem to just go through the motions in games around this time of year. The Miami Heat have lost 10 games this season. 8 of those were to teams with losing records. They didn't show up. The effort was for shit. In hockey the effort is generally much greater each game. Thats why I think fans are turning off the high salaried lolly-gaggers, in favor of the NHL.

In hockey if you don't give an effort your coach is not going to put you out on the ice. What I don't like is that hockey has too many ties and not enough goal scoring. It certainly is exciting, but tickets are super expensive and like all sports you can't see anything if you're above the 200 level.

It is true that NBA regular season games are largely meaningless beyond playoff seeding. The Heat and a lot of other teams tend to have off nights, but the thing that makes the Bulls worth watching is that regardless of who is on the floor Thibodeau will get the best defensive effort out of them every night.

Any game that goes to the shootout is essentially a tie. The shootout is just a gimmick. A shootout loss is not really a loss because you still get a point.

10 is less than 8 ... 4 to 3 is a tie ... 2 points is the same as 1 point ... you're as lucky as anyone that God doesn't keep retards out of heaven.

You get zero points if you lose in regulation. You get 1 point if you lose in the shootout. If it's really a loss you shouldn't get any points.

You are right about the effort Thibs gets/demands from his players and the Bulls probably are the hardest working team in the NBA with rare exceptions (like tonight). But I disagree about the seats high up in the United Center. I have sat in the sky boxes with clients and friends for both Basketball and Hockey games. For Basketball, it's awful. but for hockey, I kinda like it. You can see the plays develop real well and it's really a pretty cool vantage point. Don't get me wrong, I would rather sit behing the net the Hawks shoot at in the 1st and 3rd periods, but it's not bad up there for Hockey.

for this season anyways, the number of injuries in the NBA seems staggering
makes the season a little less interesting overall

consider who's missed significant time this year: Rose, Westbrook, Chris Paul, Al Horford, Ryan Anderson, Jrue Holiday, Kobe, Rondo, Tyson Chandler, Gallinari, Granger, Bynum, Irving, Brook Lopez, Eric Bledsoe, Nash, Deron Williams...

thats insane
