Just an array of (as they term it) some of the greatest sports photos of all time.

Exactly what I thought .... it's practically from another world, not just another time.

I posted the link about halfway thru the thing ... it originates from SI ... there's a link to their 100 best photos, but it looks like it's one photo per page over there, so yeah I'm not clicking 100 times to see 100 pictures just so they can get page views.

Thanks Don -- these are great. I was going to list my favorites, but there are too many -- some classics in here mixed with some I've never seen before.

Interesting story about the famous Ali shot after he knocked out Liston. The guy who took it was very young and there was a hierarchy among the photographers in choosing the spots from where they would shoot. All the senior photographers grabbed the "best spots" and you can see them behind Ali in the photo. The dean of boxing photographers at the time who was one of the leaders in chasing the kid who got that picture out of that row is framed perfectly between Ali's legs in that iconic photograph.

Can we all agree that the Bobby Orr photo is probably the most over rated photo of all time?

It's a pet peeve of mine. When you see the film of the play, he had already scored, there was no need for him to jump over somebody - he just was diving on the ice to be dramatic the same way an outfielder slides when catching a looping line drive to make it look like he is diving to catch the ball.

This play happens in Chicago or Detroit and nobody remembers it.

The goalie stick trips him but yes, it was not really a substantive part of the play

No. It's pretty clearly noted that he's 'celebrating', and he's celebrating his goal that just won the Stanely Cup. He wasn't trying to be dramatic, he was celebrating. He wasn't trying to get on SportsCenter, he was celebrating. And there's a picture of Rodman in a Bulls uniform (and I don't think that rebound was particularly important) pretty much exactly doing the same thing and I think there's no shortage of people that remember it.

I'll give you that. He is doing the same thing every player does when they win a division, a pennant, a championship, etc.

NOT iconic.

After seeing all of them,I still like the 1st one the best. Ali standing over Liston is iconic.

I never knew Tyson had a Chairman Mao tattoo. Real classy.

Actually a 1 iron but yes that's Hogan. Interesting story behind the photo that I'll include a link to as it is
kinda long, but very interesting.

I'm going to disagree there. It may be the most iconic hockey photo ever.
