No. It's pretty clearly noted that he's 'celebrating', and he's celebrating his goal that just won the Stanely Cup. He wasn't trying to be dramatic, he was celebrating. He wasn't trying to get on SportsCenter, he was celebrating.

I'll give you that. He is doing the same thing every player does when they win a division, a pennant, a championship, etc.

NOT iconic.

Oh I'll give you that, not iconic. I'd just say it's a really good pic though. Well maybe 30 years ago it could be iconic insofar as that's 30 less years of pics to dig through (I know it was more than 30 years ago), but there's much more to look at now so I think it's probably been sloughed off the list.

They have a picture of a female soccer player, but not this picture, which most everybody would agree is one of the most famous pictures of all time.

Let me see: a woman's soccer game which fourteen people cared about or a perfect game in the World Series, an amazing accomplishment which has occurred exactly zero other times in history.

I would like to meet the people who decided upon these "Great Sports Photos," and they would definitely hear a few choice words from me.
