Whether you like the man as a human being or not, O.J. Simpson is one of the top three running backs of all time. He put up huge numbers for a team that had absolutely no passing game, where opposing teams felt content to leave only their corners on the edges and put nine defenders in the box. No running back could do that today. In my mind, it goes:

Jim Brown
Barry Sanders
O.J. Simpson
Walter Payton
Marshall Faulk

with Eric Dickerson and Emmitt Smith just on the outside.

Statistically, LT is on pace to match or beat most other RB's in history. I can't argue with that. I think when you are talking about how they dominated their era. That is why I think LT has to do it for a few more years. There are other RB's in the past 10 years that have dominated for a few years. LT's first dominant season was last year. Before that, Larry Johnson/Priest Holmes were right there. Alexander may have also been put on the list.

I think LT takes the spot and he isn't too far away, but if he has 15 td's this year and never has over 20 td's in a season again, is he still the best RB of all time?

What about Marshall Faulk or Curtis Martin? I'm interested and it sounds like you have a good site where you are pulling this information from.

I also think that Larry Johnson's last two seasons match up favorably to LT's but over the last 5 years LT is the best. I just think to be the best ever, length of domination has to come into play. It will happen to LT, and if he matches last season, then he probably already is.

You guys are forgetting Squirmin Thurman Thomas. 5 consecutive 1200+ yard seasons, inculded in 8 consecutive over 1000. 12k total yards is comparable to Mashall Faulk. Plus he was in four superbowls. This guy is in the elite.

Well, what is obvious is that with any type of good season this year, LT is the best RB of this decade. All time greats in any sport(besides the NBA) are always up for debate.

We almost totally agree on something Nas! I can officially retire from the board.

I harp on alot about Pro Football Prospectus, but if you've never read their stuff before, I suggest you go out and pick up the PFP 2007 today. As luck would have it, the 2007 edition takes a look at the 100 top running back seasons of all time. The methodology they use is comparing individual seasons to the other backs in the rest of the league, so in down years (or eras) putting up large numbers is worth more than in inflated eras. Barry Sanders has two seasons in the top ten, Simpson, Earl Campbell, Thurnmon Thomas, Leroy Kelly, Terrell Davis, Jim Brown, and Larry Csonka round out the top ten. Fascinating reading (it's a 500 page book, and I blew through it in a weekend.), I definitely recommend picking one up.

We've agreed on things in the past. Grossman is the only thing we will probably never agree on.

I think that one way or another, by halfway through the season we will. I hope he is the starter the whole season and that he earns it.

I ashamed of myself, I really tried to give Grossman the benefit of the doubt, but I give up, he sucks. Collinsworth made a nice point, if Grossman first receiver is not open, he is lost.

If this season is salvagable, it's Griese time. That team has quit on Grossman, and now it seems that even he knows it. The worst part is that the kid doesn't seem to have the fight or stones to try to turn it around.

But then again, this is the same kid who lost playing time his final year at Florida.
