How serious were Cubs about Tanaka? Deadly serious. Haven't confirmed this but the word is they went to $150 million. Likely runner-up.

Cubs set the price. Tanaka's agent found someone to beat it. Typical negotiating tactic in MLB nowadays.

Does any other business ,besides sport teams, have a salary cap? Why should a team with more money be penalized from improving their team just because another team doesn't have deep pockets? Seems people want everything to be equal in this country. Like making $15 to flip burgers.

I think the intent is to not make certain MLB teams glorified minor league affiliates to the more wealthy clubs.

It doesn't work, though.

Many union jobs have in effect a salary cap. Many government jobs do too.

$150 Million for a guy who has pitched in MLB is just crazy. Its just too much money for one player. As a Cubs fan I'm glad he went to the Yankees.

Neither way .... I prefer the tampa rays way to approaching the building of the team and then spend $ to to finish out the roster.
I am not crushed that the cubs didnt land Tanaka, that is an absurd amount of $ for an unproven pitcher...have you seen the scrubs that are treated like babe ruth in japan...I feel confident in saying that Tanaka wont be as good as Darvish.
