I waved my magic wand and the Cubs now have Price. Still need two more. How is the bullpen?

How serious were Cubs about Tanaka? Deadly serious. Haven't confirmed this but the word is they went to $150 million. Likely runner-up.

Cubs set the price. Tanaka's agent found someone to beat it. Typical negotiating tactic in MLB nowadays.

Does any other business ,besides sport teams, have a salary cap? Why should a team with more money be penalized from improving their team just because another team doesn't have deep pockets? Seems people want everything to be equal in this country. Like making $15 to flip burgers.

I think the intent is to not make certain MLB teams glorified minor league affiliates to the more wealthy clubs.

It doesn't work, though.

Many union jobs have in effect a salary cap. Many government jobs do too.

Didn't Levine or some other pundit say that it was going to either NY or LA all the away because of Tanaka's Carmellosque desire for his singer / actress wife be closer to the entertainment places so she could ostensibly work?

Because sports leagues have to keep in mind the competitive balance so that the whole of the league is worth more. Not just a couple teams.

Who says you gotta go NY or LA to get a job in entertainment? Chic-a-go-go could use a new host.

$150 Million for a guy who has pitched in MLB is just crazy. Its just too much money for one player. As a Cubs fan I'm glad he went to the Yankees.

That's not really fair.

The Yankee way also factors in that they will eat those contracts once they become bad

And that they actually are trying to win again.

This century.

Fair has nothing to do with it.The Cubs don't spend money wisely and have always been bad

Neither way .... I prefer the tampa rays way to approaching the building of the team and then spend $ to to finish out the roster.
I am not crushed that the cubs didnt land Tanaka, that is an absurd amount of $ for an unproven pitcher...have you seen the scrubs that are treated like babe ruth in japan...I feel confident in saying that Tanaka wont be as good as Darvish.

7 years, full no trade clause.

To sign a pitcher for that long, for that much money, with a full no trade clause is playing with some serious fire.

The Yankees are desperate though. They can't get away with any type of rebuilding project, whether it is how the Cubs or Sox are going about it.

That's now. Taxes in IL don't go down.

He also gets something like $100K a year housing allowance, $35K moving allowance, gets to pick his own translator, and who knows what else. The Cubs, Sox, and other teams dodged a bullet.
