won't happen...but I'd love to see some backlash against them. I know...I know...boycott the cubs and wrigley as well until they field a real team. yadda yadda....I'm just sick of chicago politics and the fact that nothing logical can ever get done. Laughable.

People enjoy the product they offer. Save boycotts for social justice, not because they're refusing to further enrich a billionaire. That's what's laughable.

I have no dog in the billionaires vs. millionaires fight, but...

I always thought the rooftops are/were a big part of the Weeghman charm (& therefore value to the Cubbies). I'm all for sentiment and charm. It makes them special. And not just little league/mity mite hockey participant trophy special. And quite naturally, I believe in honoring one's word/valuing a contract & contractual relationship. Especially one so publicly lauded by both parties as fair and balanced only a few short years ago.

If you can't have faith in written contracts in this country, what will we be left with? Monetizing everything, but only where it benefits the billionaires???

And then what do I tell the children?!?

right. There's no need to boycott them...they're all going under in the next couple years...

Can't tell how much of this is facetious, but you're right on. Their partnership had clearly been just fine, and nothing changed on the rooftops' side.

I thought it was charming when the rooftops were just a party on the roof of an apartment building with a grill and a case of beer. Now it's big business, and has little to no charm.

sooo...if the cubs were to ride out the next 10 years of the contract and honor it fully....you'd then have no problems with the putting up multiple signs and jumbotron and whatever to block the views of the rooftops? That'd be only fair...right? The with each passing year the value of each of those rooftops goes right done the drain.

Nobody did go to the rooftops.

The stadium was half empty. But those roof tops were 2/3rds empty last year from what I saw.

Since tickets to actually get into the stadium are available for cheap on the secondary market, why would you choose to sit on the rooftops?

Granted, once the Cubs are good again, the rooftops will be packed again as well.

Tickets are overpriced. 100 bucks min. Sure, unlimited beer and food but I can eat better BBQ and get hammered at Sheffields, walk over and pick up a ticket for 10 bucks. They need to readjust.

A friend of mine said in late August and September of last year you could have knocked on the door and got in for $20 or so. They were desperate to get anybody up there at that point. Maybe not the free beer and food at that point for that price though.

But like you said, in late August and September you could have gotten box seats for $20 or even cheaper.

All you can eat food is never a selling point for me. I can only eat so much and then I don't want to eat anymore. Not gonna be one of those idiots that shoves food down my throat just cuz it's all you can eat.

I'll be that idiot. I'll starve myself for 18 hours and clean the hell out of a Chinese buffet. I don't care.

Well, that's a little different. You planned to go in starving. I've done that before with buffets too. But I wouldn't go to a rooftop Cubs game with that plan in mind.

But if I'm not starving, I can't eat a lot of food just because it's there. That's all I'm saying.

I've actually disappointed myself at some buffets where I am starving. Thinking I'd eat more, I just have a limit with that too.

Real simple. Ricketts comes out and says: "If these issues are not resolved in a week's time, negotians are over and we will study other opportunities in the suburbs."

Will that make the rooftop owners happy? Frickin' A-holes.

If you think you can get out of a ballpark eating and drinking in a normal manner there for less than 100 you are dreaming. 100 all you can eat and drink sounds like a deal to me. And drink 8th and 9th.

What assholes, entering a contract for a symbiotic business relationship and then expecting the larger and more powerful entity to uphold the terms of that contract. Fucking assholes. It's their fault those hayseed Nebraskans couldn't sign Tanaka.

Moving to Rollin' Ghettos would mean leaving the city they've been in since 1876, too, so.

Yeah, you are right. I can't believe all this aggravation because of signage??
What does that have to do with expanding locker rooms, batting cages, etc.?

The Cubs should pull a Sox in a way. Tear down Wrigley play at the cell for a couple years and build an updated replica of Wrigley right where it is. But spin it around so the rook tops are to the front of the stadium.

Well, they've already started treating ticketholders like shit, fired announcers for being critical of the team, introduced a stupid mascot, and they're trying to take all their games off WGN. Sounds like if they're going to keep pulling Sox, they should just invest in a garter belt.

It's a terrible view from the rooftops. Kinda like sitting in a skybox for a Basketball game at the United Center. A little worse than that. I am happy to join the boycott....I never intended to sit there again anyway.

I'd be interested in CH's answer, but for me HELL YES. And I'd take it a step further. Say flat out "no deal. We're riding out the contract. And Monday morning every iota of something resembling vines or the logo, anything we have trademarked, if it's not explicitly stated in the agreement that you can use it, you're getting sued for copyright infringement. And BTW, we're putting back up the black windscreens to within a 10th of an inch from the point you can sue us over it. And come the last out of the 2014 season we're breaking ground. You wanna stop us? Call a lawyer. We've got plenty. And the money to pay them for decades. Have a nice day"

The rooftops were cute in the 80's when it was a couple guys with some lawn chairs, a cooler and their dog. This isn't cute and part of the ambiance.

They should just go ahead with all the renovations except the bleacher expansion, and when the agreement with the rooftop owners expire, raise the bleachers and install wind screens so they can see NOTHING. But until the agreement expires (which was a huge mistake) they should honor their agreement.

What's with everyone wanting the park to look like shit? which is what contriving to block everything outside the park would accomplish?

Rickets has screwed this whole thing up. He should have said fuck you to the city of Chicago and moved out west. He doesn't have the sack though to be the guy who moved the Cubs out of Wrigley Field.

Jesus fucking Christ. This is not Detroit. This is not Raleigh. This is a major city with high population density and infrastructure designed to bring everyone into a central hub from a number of spokes. THERE IS NO GOOD REASON TO STAGE 81 BASEBALL GAMES OUTSIDE THE CITY OF CHICAGO.
