Cubs projected for MLB's worst record in 2014

Cubs fans may want to look away for a moment.

While recent prospect rankings have given the fanbase some hope for the future, it could still be a long year in Wrigleyville.

Clay Davenport recently released his projections for the 2014 MLB season and tabbed the Cubs as the worst team in the league with a 67-95 record.

[Prospect Watch: Pierce Johnson making Cubs take notice]

Davenport also has the Cubs with the worst offense in the league, projected for just 598 runs, 17 behind the next closest team (Philadelphia Phillies).

By these projections, the Cubs have a 0.6 percent chance at winning a World Series, a 1.2 percent shot at the Wild Card and a 1.8 percent chance at a playoff spot.

It is obviously still very early -- pitchers and catchers report in three weeks -- so take Davenport's calculations with a grain of salt. So much can change between now and Opening Day.

[MORE: Cubs will get look at future with Baez, Bryant, Almora in camp]

By comparison, the Houston Astros -- who lost 111 games in 2013 -- are projected for a 70-92 record. The St. Louis Cardinals are tabbed for a 90-72 record, tied for the second-best in the league behind only the Detroit Tigers (91-71).

Astros have some prospects on the active roster of guys who havent failed in the majors, but they didnt live up to the hype. Wallace, castro, Altuve, Doninguez, Carter.....Castro had a great run at the end, but the Astros are rolling the dice with $100 on snake eyes.

They are just playing their Vitters and Matt Murtons in the hopes of winning a few more games.

Just meaningless games won of 7o v 67

BF,
I have already seen one Cub article on how the new hitting coach can help Barney with his swing.
I have been reading BS stories like this since 1967 in the paper (now online.) Can't they pop for a 2nd baseman that can hit .250 at least?

Glaring mistake there.

The Cubs have a 0% chance of winning the World Series, not a 0.6% chance.

But what are the Sux chances of winning a game against the Cubs?

If someone thinks the worst record will be 67 wins, and the best record 91 wins... I can't really put much stock in it.

And you have a 0.03% chance of making a relevant post regarding the Cubs.

Never trust people with last names as a first name.

I agree with IMU. 67 and 91 wont be either of the watermarks.

Jimmy, how would you build this team for the future? They are trying to build up their farm system. So far they seem to be doing a decent job. You do understand that 75-80 win team doesn't get them the same draft picks as a 67 win team, right?

Theo and Co. are doing what they said they where going to do. McCaskey had no plan and no direction. I have to question anyone that thinks McCaskey's plan was genius compared to Theo. Stop yourself!

  I heard that Dunn guy was available. He hit 50hrs once! Theo is stupid for trying to draft future stars when we can just sign past stars right NOW! Shake that!

When the plan means losing on purpose,I don't want any part of it. We can go back and forth on this until we both turn Cubby Blue and never change our minds. But C'mon,They couldn't pick up 3-4 ML bats to add some interest this season? That is bullshit plain & simple.

Say you drive an old Honda Civic and you are saving up for one of IMU's dream cars. Do you put spinners and neon lights on a piece of crap and drive it around hoping to get some interest?

I drive a 2010 Civic.

In the game of baseball,a hot WC team at the right time can make a push in the playoffs. Just ask Pinellas' Cubs.

Last year was the season that tipped the scales for me. If 2014 looks like 2013 I am jumping on the pasta bandwagon and trumpeting my bugle for all to hear.

If you needed an article to tell you the Cubs might be bad this year, you're probably as much a Cubs fan as you are a plate of fresh mangos. If that article makes you think the Cubs don't know what they're doing, the plate of fresh mangos have you beat in the brains department.

If you think losing 197 games in two seasons means they know what they are doing ,than hello

I'm sure the Cubs will keep your feelings in mind when deciding a time table for their rebuild.

Ricketts We need to win this year.

Theo: Why? We said 5 years and where clear about that when we started this rebuild.

Ricketts RPB and Jimmy could tolerate a couple years of not winning, but this year they expect us to win and I don't want them to be pissed. C.Kenny, get Dempster and Woody on the phone. Make it happen!

I think that they have a plan. I have yet to see any indication that it will work though. As a fan it just makes me more and more nervous as the seasons tick away. If I KNEW that the plan would work I would be fine with the losing.

They never said five years or put any specific timetable on that, and certainly not at the beggining. The 5 year thing was a media creation. Guess it worked.

Anyway, my tolerance is what it is. I cant pretend to be happy. I think a couple years is reasonable.

Pinellas' Cubs doesn't really help your argument.

0-6 in those stellar playoff years. That isn't a sustainable way to run a team.

Yeah who needs back to back playoff appearances. That is for shitty teams like the Red Sox and Yankees.
