I love raw tomatoes.
Fucking great. When they're in season I eat like 4 a day until it gives me heartburn.

My wife grows them in our back yard. I was surprised that they tasted so good.

I meant as far as salad. Tomatoes Italian or Greek style with mozzarella or feta on a plate fine.

Tomatoes are also the food that has the biggest difference in quality between homegrown and storebought.
Nothing better than homegrown tomatoes.

True winter tomatoes in the store are like wet red styrofoam

Get some almond slivers and some dried cranberries, and that's all you need. Unless you're stupid enough to put tomatoes in your salad, at which point, nothing can save it.

What about a squeeze of lemon or some cracked black pepper? Not that oregano-scented formaldehyde Darkside puts on his salad per se, but isn't it all dressing?

or the tomatoes at Subway any day of the year....

agree with spanky, how the hell can you have a salad without tomatoes ? That's the #2 ingredient you need, after lettuce

re: dressing, all i ever use is salt, pepper, olive oil and one (1) of the following acids: red wine vinegar, balsamic, lemon juice.

boom

Almond slivers and dried cranberries on lettuce with no dressing? Do you also have a white wine spritzer and then talk about Oprah's Book of the Month before you go to Hot Yoga at the local Curves?

So there.

Im not a big salad guy. I eat maybe 12 a year. For some reason the fat free italian always tastes better to me. Its sweeter or something

Probably already been mentioned, but I thought most stuff that is mass produced like big brand salad dressing has enough preservatives involved to last a long time. How long depends, it may list an expiration date on the bottle, but by design I assumed these things are supposed to last longer than we are comfortable with. Doesn't make it okay to eat, but just saying.

Yeah, I would bet - for liability reasons - the stamped date is more akin to a "half-life" of the product.

I thought the expiration on most nuts is about 72 years.

This was a vintage CSFMB thread. I loved every page of it, despite MITC being so horribly horribly wrong. :D

oil/vinegar/balsamic are all in my wheelhouse. Fat-free dressing is pretty terrible the few times I've tried it.

You forgot Catalina.

Actually, French is pretty different from those. More "orangey". The others are "reddish".
